Does anyone know if there is an outlet for the tiny clear oil plugs for the door hinges I have one good one but the top one turned to dust trying to pry it out of the hole |

I wasn’t aware the door hinges have an oil plug.
Maybe a P.O. application? _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

I'm with kingkarmann. What oil plug?
Pics would help.
Maybe it's a Zeibart rustproofing plug in the door pillar? _________________ Currently own:

Here's a picture from my unmolested 68 Regatta Blue Ghia Vert. I had not seen these before either. Both upper and lower hinges have them. I wonder if they were used from the very first year? Hopefully they are available some where. This thread may cause a run on them.
Yes I realize she needs new door check rods! _________________ Marc

I have an an all original 1969 coupe. Has 43 original miles on it. I remember buying those things for my wife’s 69 vert. at the local dealership. I’ve had no luck finding the clear ones.

What a gorgeous Ghia. Love the color. That's Sunset, L31k isn't it? I bought a front trunk lid and a single door from a 69 Sunset convertible. They had been in storage for years. Now I'm storing them. _________________ Marc

I just looked at your other threads and I think you meant to say 43,000 miles. Not 43 miles right? I believed the low number as your car does look new. The paint and the chrome look perfect. _________________ Marc

Yes, 43,000 miles. When I put new brakes on the Ghia I found this on the backside of beauty ring
Compare original window crank to repro

My beauty rings have the same number on them. They look good but not perfect as they've been marred from someone trying to pry the hubcaps off with screw drivers or some thing similar.
68 has the same window cranks with the chrome on either side of the black center. I believe 68 and 69 are the only two years that Ghias had those window cranks. The went to all black in 1970. My 68 convertible only has 22,900 miles. It was mostly parked from the 1980's until I bought it 5 months ago. There's a link to the thread under my signature. _________________ Marc

The beauty rings on my 69 are not perfect but very presentable. Yes those window cranks are two years only. I love your ‘68 ‘vert by the way, what’s not to love. I think I will replace the main door seal on both doors, they are pretty decayed from time. My car was sold in Klamath Falls at the local VW dealership. It never left the area. Klamath Falls is high desert and very dry plus the car was always garaged. The only seals I changed were the two front grills and the seal around the logo in front. Everything else as far as I can tell is original. |

That's a great find! Especially in that one year only color. Yours is the first time I've seen a complete car in the color "Sunset". I think it's pretty rare. It's nice to have all the history with a car. _________________ Marc

Today I decided to remove the door panel on my ‘69 coupe. There was a door panel clip or some object caught and was threatening to penetrate through the upholstery. I removed the panel and removed the clip. I was amazed by how clean the door interior was. I guess whoever removed it the first time dislodged the clip. I’ve never seen this type of clip and there were no rubber grommets. Check out how clean every thing is. Also no plastic vapor barrier, is this normal. The panel has a type of wax paper protecting it.

I've seen this exact paper installed the same way on a set of original door panels. This is the vapor barrier that was used during this time period. It's a fragile paper but mine had these same fiber threads as well.
As to the rubber boots for the clips I'm sure it changed over the years, but no rubber clips on later during this period. I bought a full set of the rubber boots for my 71. It had no interior at all when I bought it but the description for the plugs all say "for Beetles and Ghias", then later discovered that's not true. Frustrating but seller descriptions are not always correct. _________________ Marc
