Getting better. Still have some holes, dents, and the brazing to cut out. Overall, I’m happy how it’s turning out. Got something solid for the filler to hang on. This one is the worst of the bunch. Hopefully keep moving along!! |

Back to the passenger door. Not the worst, not the best. But it's welded up 100%, ready for filler/primer. On to the next project. Whatever that may be, on this thing. So many to choose from.

Had to raise it. If you can tell. It has some squish now. I figure by the time you add the tank, interior, spare tire, people etc. It will go down a little more. Hopefully without any rub, when steering. It's riding on a new stock beam w/adjusters, and CB dropped spindles. Tires are 135's. The CB spindles are probably some of the first ones that they put out. I've had them since the late 90's.

A beam w/adjusters isn't a stock beam. _________________ a beetle is like a cocker spaniel, always funny but sometimes not listening |

Not much of an update. Getting the metal cleaned up. Man I hate rust…. Even when its “clean” it has some pits. 🤬. I’m trading some work for some epoxy. Prep clean, looks like its cleared.

Been a little minute, since I've done any work. Got a small update. More rust to address of course. VW seam sealer failed over time. Left some holes for me. Not nearly as bad as the passenger side though. Had to make a corner piece.
Needs trimmed, and I'll open the gap some, before I weld it in. That's as far as I got Monday night.
And there's more rust "inside". (not pictured) Another small piece will be made for it as well. |

Dude, I had a dog that looked exactly like that one, she lasted 15-1/2 years and passed in November of '92. I mean down to T, except yours might be a couple pounds heavier. Her name was Magic, still miss that dog. Wrench on! _________________ My name's Steve and it's pronounced "Bust 'em" (cuz people think I'm Tom) 😏 |

Nice! That's a long time. El is probably about 50lb. She's got a lot of fur though. She's poofy! Border Collie/ Lab. She's a good size. Not too big, not too small. |

Another small update. Amazing how much time a 2”x2” piece takes to make. So its a small update, that took a long time. Its not my best work, but it’ll do.
These are the little spots that need some love.
So I couldn’t finish the outer skin without taking care of the corner. No outer skin makes it a lot easier to fit bringing it through the back.
Had to make it in 2 pieces. I tried to make it in one, but was getting frustrated.
There are many steps missing as far as pictures. I’m a one man show, so sometimes I forget pictures of the steps of the process. Gotta give it up for some of the threads on here being so detailed.
I started to get it round, by hand hammering on a roundish dolly, clamped in the vise. My metal shaping skills and tools are crude Hoping that notch in the corner is going to fill with a small piece of mild steel rod. Have to use some “bad chad” style fabrication. Hell a coat hanger is
probably the right size. And I will mention, it sucks posting with a phone. I’ll probably edit this at work tomorrow, on my computer. Thats all I’ve got tonight!! |

Should've used some donor metal. Oh well, its in. Its solid, and some filler will make it look pretty.
Got the tar board off
Ouch! Blowout from earlier. needs some help. Just when you think youre doing good ....the metal disappears.
Before I finish the outer, I'll use rust encapsulater, wherever I can get to.

Loved that image of the stripped clean sunroof panel. Start from scratch and build from there. |

A little brown rustoleum over the inhibitor, and a couple holes in the piece.
Still have my tab on. I cut it later with a hacksaw blade.
Moving along..

On to the back. Rear apron...Been dreading this. Had to be done. A couple drill bits, an air cut off, and about 3 hrs later, its off.
Welded washer repair.
