Does the door sill have its own seal? Below is a picture of the sill I removed during disassembly about 5 years ago. Has a seal. The kit of seals I bought does not have one like this, but the seal seems to fit very well over the hump in the sill. Looks like it belongs there. Should I look for one since it didn’t come with the kit?
Thanks.

Make sure you check out the body leaks manual here https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/looklisten_14.php
Under that sill should be a small hole for any water that runs down the door trim, the rear wind lace should loop under the sill as well to guide any water, and looks like a small line of silicone can direct any water into the hole. See page 5.

Thanks, Jeff. Amazing what info is out there and available. I had not seen this before. Back home now after a week there with the car. Got a lot done. Less than I would have liked but drove her around the neighborhood. No glass, trunk or engine lid but I did have carpet(!) and a lot of less-than-obvious work done.
We took a video of the drive but my IT skills are minimal so not sure how I can post that here on Samba.... Open to any suggestions. |

If you look at page five of that PDF it illustrated a rubber seal under the sill that keeps water flowing into that hole in the top of the rocker.
I recall it being there when I took my 64 apart. No one sells it but I think a thin piece of rubber or some insulation from the hardware store could work. _________________ 2019 Golf Alltrack, '65 Ghia Coupe Restoration in Progress |

I don't believe that's a rubber seal underneath the door sill. Rather, it's something like 3M strip caulk (page 5 itself references 'sealing strip D19'. The 3M product can be left as a strip, and used on the sill as shown, or, it can be molded and put over the side spear mounting clips inside the doors, as shown on page 3 of that Body Leaks pdf.

Since my rockers, and sills, were replaced, I am missing that drain hole, does anyone have a measurement on where that hole sits? Measurement from the B pillar? I need to drill it out so I can put the caulk to guide any water. Or am I good to just guestimate?

II hope these pictures help. The hole is dimpled to create a small basin for the water to flow into.

Thank you Emil, very helpful. Since the body guys didn't leave that seam, the picture will help me to estimate where to tap that hole, and I'll find something a little larger to dimple it.

And here you’ll find more details how the water is supposed to be guided to this door sill drain hole:
