Thanks!
I ended up taking luckystiff's advice and going with 165/60/15 for the front and 195/65/15 on the back. I'm glad I did, I love the way they look. I have a little bit of room in the rear so I might add a spacer to get closer to the lip, but I didn't want to chance it with a wider tire.

Sorry man, they are bolted on the car and won't be coming off for a while. I didn't try to put it in there before they were installed.
Good luck |

Usually a 4.5 will fit in the spare tire slot with a low profile tire.
A 5.5 is a squeeze.

subgraphic: thanks for response
Volkswagnut: thanks for the information
I ordered 5 of them and will pick them up tomorrow so I will find out once i get the home to see what happens. I will see if the wheel itself will fit in the spare tire area and then will probable have to install a 135 or 145 tire on the wheel. Again thanks |

a stock 165r15 fits in the spare area. 165mm =6.5". a 5.5" wide wheel measures 6.5" outside lip to outside lip...... so stick with a tire 165mm wide or LESS and it should fit in the spare spot just fine.........
wanna be a little more sure? put a 145/65/15 on that 5.5" and it will stretch and will surely fit........ _________________ ITMC

Eh.. a 165/15 on a stock 4 and an aftermarket 4.5 is snug under the hood of an undamaged pre 68 Beetle, and some even have to let air out to make it fit well as its a smigge bigger than the stock 5.60-15 bias tire size.
A 145/15 and 155/15 fit well.
Using a 5.5 wheel makes things snugger, but can be used with the right tire combo.

Nice!
Are these the "sand brushed" or "gun metal" finish?
Some of the pics of the CIP wheels I've seen look darker, and some look lighter. I don't want a super light or super dark gray, but a shade in between.
In the pics of your bus here, they look like what I want.
Also, has anyone been able to compare the Speed Master wheels directly to the CIP wheels? I'm interesting I'm knowing about the quality, finish, and weight of one versus the other. _________________ Ellis Engineering

From the CIP site, you only get a head on view.
Can these be widened?
I think they might look pretty good on my buggy, maybe 8 inches wide.
I'd want a 275/60/15 on it. |
