Welcome and Congrats these are special cars!

People will point out things they see on your car, don't be discouraged they are sharing information that is not well known!

But remember it is Your car and you make it into what you want!

Some like full restoration, some want a clean car that is a smooth ride.

To each their own!

Start your own thread for your car and update it from time to time, any nice milestone that may otherwise go forgotten!

Tom

^ WOW, that is gorgeous! Love the colour, the stance. Those one piece windows work out well, I don’t even miss the wind-wings. Interesting colour treatment to the steering wheel, I like. What’s that on the steering column, flash light? What do you have stuffed under the deck lid?

Very tastefully done, thank you for sharing.

Thank you all for the positive comments!
I’ll give a bit of backstory first - I bought it in April this year. It was actually built in the 90s which is a clue to some of the mods -
Things like the one piece windows, the gauges in the dash etc. and remarkably, that paint is almost 30 years old and shows literally no signs of age whatsoever.
Since getting it, I’ve gone through it and made it more contemporary and made it my own.
I added the nose and license plate for example - it had a completely smooth W lid - even the central crease has been smoothed off somehow..
I also remade more suitable door/quarter cards from the warped ‘58-up ones that were in it.
Added a semi-batwing wheel that needed significant restoration - during which I fancied trying a guitar-style ‘burst’ finish. Also reworked a repop speaker grille to incorporate the tach and semi-cover the 3 supplementary gauges (still readable through the grille)
Redid the trunk area and wiring.
Added an oil cooler (yes, added - the original was missing due to the shroud conversion, and a PO had removed the supplementary cooler because it was leaking…)
Made and added the various shortened/slimmed chrome trims,
Fitted the retrosound stereo…. Blah blah - usual detailing and trimming things.
The motor is a 2332 with a Berg close-ratio tranny, and those wheels are 4-studs with Moon caps. I’d rather have 5/205s, but that’s a spendy change from the current disc/drum set up..
The carbs are new Weber 48s - it runs like a champ right now, so perhaps they’re not too big like I’d feared..
And the seats are mk1 Golf GTi.
From the paperwork that came with it, it was derelict in 1990, and as such I don’t feel bad at all about it’s originality.. it’s just a quick little bug as far as I’m concerned, and being heavily modified, it’s easier to get parts!
Oh - I’m not really big on accessories, but yes - that’s a repro clip-on flashlight on the column. Could work out to be practical!

Hey everyone. This is my first post on here guys. I recently purchased my dream car off this very website and can say everything went as smooth as I could’ve hoped for. My father (RIP), my older brother, and I were very much into VWs growing up. Money was extremely tight back then, so owing an Oval was just a dream for the three of us.

I’ve probably dreamt of having an oval for over 30 years. Took my brother for a spin the other day, he loves it. I only wish my dad could’ve seen it. Zach, if you read this, you have no idea how much I appreciate you selling me it and how smooth it went. Thank you very much. -Mario

Speaking as a man who still has his father around, and who has shared his entire VW experience(s) with his father. I can say, your father would be uber happy and pleased! My own father is and expresses it often!

My '57. Bought in 1992, finished resto 1999. Still have it, have put about 19k miles on it. Hope to finally get it's original engine rebuilt and re-installed this year. Have been running it on a '59 36er thus far.
