'74 vert.
The indicator light is hardly visible during the day...dim at night but does work.
Bulb is new and a new ignition switch was installed (another issue) several lmonths ago...still dim.
What do you all think? Where should I look?

Poor ground or contact at the bulb holder

Not the bulb but a poor ground sounds more plausible.

Where should I look for the poor ground?

BTW-I will add that when the car is OFF, and I use the hazards, that indicator light is nice and bright (seeable in the day).

"The indicator light" Singular not plural. There are four of them. Which one? Or, is it both front and rear together. Or, left and right are different?

It is my belief that the indicator light in the speedometer is what is referenced.
I concur with the ground suggestion although some time laying over the fender with a test light and multimeter are required.
The bad part is that there is no convenient place to put your beer.

Yes, in the case of a '74, in the clock (one light for both sides).

Ugh, I'll gird myself for the ground search.

Well, I've checked/cleaned all the ground points in the exterior lights... with no luck... still have a dim turn signal indicator light.

FYI - on a '74, the indicator light (which is in the clock) works for both left/right exterior turn signals.

So I've turned my attention to the wire nest behind the dash.

Thinking it could be the style flasher I have, but saw this (see pic below) and was wondering what the 4th connector is used for.

Any ideas?

Anyone able to help me out with my question (in the pic)?

Since it's a 74, do you still have the seat belt ignition lock working? I know a bunch of people pulled the relay for that but you also lose the key ignition buzzer, door light, and some other things. I can check my Bently tomorrow for the wiring diagram and look at my fuse block too...

I bypassed the seat belt interlock years ago (on the larger relay to the left of this one). The door lights work, ignition buzzer... pretty much everything that is expected to.

I don't see any reference to this 4th (unknown) lead on any of the Bentley wiring guides (be it Type 1 or Ghia '73/'74).

Since I'm chasing a dim dash light turn signal indicator, I was wondering, if there was even the remotest chance it was involved somehow.

Abigdumkid... do tell what you find out with your research.

Thanks!

Sorry about the lateness of this. Here's a top down view of my relays, driver side to the right. It looks like I'm missing a relay completely but there doesn't appear to have been one at the end.

If it’s connected to the yellow wire as the pic might indicate then I believe it’s a wire misplaced. There is a yellow wire that comes off of 56b Of dimmer relay that goes to fuse location 4 on feed side(towards front of car) then on to the headlights. The location that you are showing is that of the emergency flasher but that relay has NO yellow or any wire for a 74.

I think this might be the right answer. The indicator (flasher) light in the speedo on my '68 Ghia was also dim. BUT, a few years ago my friend Phil in Edinburgh sent me half a dozen bulbs that were double the wattage of the ones I had. My memory says 4 Watts, but they might have been the 2 Watts Disc has mentioned.

World of difference.
