Only one 18 lb bird this year, brined, oven roasted. The usual masters, peas and onions, salad...
Immediate family, MIL make it small, but we have still managed to have to rearrange furniture to accommodate social distancing.

My wife is baking a small chicken for the 2 of us, I had a pint of my Gravy from work, not sure what else we have, I didn't do my usual work gig, I just got back out of the Hospital, Diverticulitis, again, and a few extra nights for "Atrial Flutter" irregular heart rhythm,(I was told 160+ beats a minute was Bad) 5+ days at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital. Still got my sense of humor, I ask almost every Doctor, Is Hitchcock REALLY where they brought John Wayne Bobbit to get fixed up ? Laughing
Please be careful everyone, This covid is a killer.

Diverticulitis sucks, be careful it doesn't evolve into Girt . Got my dad , morphed into esophageal cancer.

So this year. It's gonna be a Jalapeno Honey smoked 12lb bird. The usual sides, candied yams, brussel sprouts, cheater Pilsbury flaky biscuits, and a pumpkin pie. I burnt the first pie last light. Embarassed This mornings pie came out perfect.

I'm going it alone this year. My family is fairly disbursed. So no travel for me this year.
Plus Work rules state, if going on nonessential travel, you must quarantine for 14days. Without pay! Even if it is to a neighboring state in a car.
No exceptions!
We're trying to keep 6K construction workers healthy. That's no small task!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Day folks!

23 lb bird for the two of us. Well, actually we cooked it on the Weber charcoal barbecue yesterday. We made up 6 to go boxes of a complete Thanksgiving meal - turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, apple and pumpkin pie. We delivered those to some single follks in our church yesterday. Today all we have to do is reheat all the leftovers for us.

Thanksgiving dinner was excellent! Although, I didnt try the Turkey, everything else was tasty tasty. I'm very thankful for my family and friends. Even tho we had to have two separate thanksgivings today due to a messed up and divided family. My poor niece was completely shot by the end of the day. Thanksgiving dinner is always something special when the chef can cook Cool

Stay safe, and enjoy the holiday!

Just getting around to dinner. Spent the day at “Taste of Merry Farm”. It is an event at Knott’s Berry Farm, a theme park near us in Buena Park. One purchases a “food ticket” and roams around the park eating. It was a great alternative to a family get together. Heck, I even ran into my cousin’s family! Good stuff!

Got back from Knott’s around 4:00. Geared up the Kitchen and started to cook. I do not eat turkey, so Tritip it is, on the Bar B Q. Should be eating in an hour!

Happy Tritip day everyone!

Two birds. One was an afterthought. A standard 15 pounder rubbed with butter, black pepper and thyme, rosemary and sage....stuffed with celery and onions....excellent and simple.

The other was a smoked turkey (mesquite and hickory) from a very good local BBQ place (Earls in OKC).

I should have listed this earlier...but for those of you needing to travel for small groups...wear hardhats and high visibility vests....so you can convince the law that you are heading to work.... Very Happy

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm brining a bird this year, before grilling.

2 Gallons water
1 1/2 c Kosher salt
1/3 c brown sugar
3 T minced garlic
1 T black pepper

Soak the bird for 24 to 48 hours, after, rinse under cold water.

Figure, 25 to 30 minutes per pound of bird while grilling.
Internal temp should be 168° F.
Let the bird rest for 1/2 an hour, before carving.

I don't have a lot of things to be thankful for this year.

My mother passed, in Feb. 2022.

My youngest Grandson passed Nov. 16 2022. Crying or Very sad
His passing is the most painful experience in my long life.
It hurts when you lose a fragile family member.
I'll miss him.
I'd trade places with him, If I could, in a heartbeat.

@ 67rustavenger
My deepest condolences ...

As the owner & chief laborer of a small service oriented business I have to let Cracker Barrel do the cooking this year. The wife is 4.5hrs away with her family. She won't be back until Fri at 6 or 7pm & I gotta be at a customer's house by 9am.
I plan on wearing my stretchy pants & commit cannibalism -
(cuz I'm a turkey). Lol

Cherish the time with loved ones. We only go around once & life is too short to squabble.

All the best to you & yours ... stay safe

We will be having dinner at the Hard Rock Casino along with a few thousand others, no mess to clean up afterwards. Will be spending time later with a friend of ours he’s 86 living by himself. I’ll also be checking in on a neighbor he’s also getting up in years and his wife is well into dementia and can’t cook anything. So this year we are just helping the older folks around here. 😀

This year will be small.
My Daughter started a new job, is taking two graduate courses and still being a Wife and a mommy to 3 young children.
She is overwhelmed and stressed.
She usually hosts the holiday but this year we are doing so in our small home.
Seven people total, 20lb bird, traditionally stuffed and cooked in the oven just like grandma used to do.
Never went in for the "newer" cooking options that have developed over the years.

One turkey outside on grill, one smoked in the Traeger - whole family over to our house. I'm thankful to have everyone here safe and sound.
