Can anyone point me in the right direction to motor rebuild information? I am rebuilding my air-cooled engine soon but don't want to go into it completely blind. I have done small engine work before but never rebuilt one. I want to learn though just need some help. Any write ups online would be great. |

Look here, third post down in the thread has a heading for engine building of various vanagon engines.

Tom Wilson has a book that is a good starting point. It is called How to Rebuild your Air Cooled Volkswagen Engine. It is a bit dated, but still a lot of relevant information.
Just be sure you do an honest assessment of your abilities before you dive in. VWs are not complicated, but easy access to information on the internet has spawned a lot of over confidence in many, resulting in poor to average results.
What measuring tools do you have? To what degree do you trust their accuracy and your ability to use them? Everything you touch must be validated these days. Accept nothing at face value, especially new parts. Any less than that is just a gamble.
If you have good measurement tools, and have even modest mechanical aptitude, go for it! Sounds like you are well on your way with small engine work. Everyone has to start somewhere. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295
