agreed. type 34 is a little more aerodynamic and you can tell is pushes through the air a little better, but the notch being a little taller is better to me as well. I prefer the squareback and have yet to have a fastback, but having driven plenty type34's and notchbacks, Driving wise I like the notch better. |
About the only problem I had driving my wife's 70 Fastback up from Texas was seeing out the rear window. The seating position is the same as a Notch or Square. I loved being able to stuff the rear of my Square full of stuff (I called it a mini Suburban with what could be put in it). Yes, the T-34 did cut thru the air a little better, but fuel economy was very close to my Notch (probably the gearing made a difference, as the Notch has a 3.88:1 in it). At one time I owned a Notch, a Square, a Fastback, and a T-34 at the same time, and could jump into any of them and go for a cruise. The T-34 for me was hard to get in and out of though, as the seats sat closer to the ground (one of the drawbacks of getting older). Just my take on it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I recycle old cars and parts, other than when I rot, that's as Green as I am going to get.
Thanks to my Tesla driving neighbors, I feel more relaxed driving my SUBURBAN and old VW's.

Oh I love it!
Only thing worth $1500 is that Hazet tool box in the background. _________________

I am always happy to see reproductions for our beloved cars. But this falls short on, how would you attach it to the door? Besides, it's not cheap!

They look like 66/67 versions that were cast when the pair they wanted were made. An attempt to recoup the money shelled out to get what you want with extra to sell. I would do the same with anything I made. Its a logical action to do. But It would be more honest with what I made and why so the next person could grasp the concept. Basic 101 stuff when remaking anything for our cars that's not available - in for a penny in for a pound.
I still want to copy wrap around dashes. Taking mine, make a silicone mold and do it for what it is out of plastic. Then to repop the wrap around door sections notch/square and arm rests out of plastic. Then make the same for T34 upper door sections and upper lower dash parts. Lots of investment in time and learning curve and make some $ for doing it. In the end its not only the love of the car its $$$ that will drive the innovation and willingness to reproduce. To not be able to recoup your investment is the #1 reason why its not available to you now. Wouldn't you like a Blaupunkt radio surround available for your Type 3? _________________

You might want to contact the seller and find out where it gets it's cooling air from. Stock top of the fenders? How about what feeds the engine side? I only say that as the engine cooling boot is pretty important for any long drives. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I remember a friend in the 80s trying to do something similar with the Type 1 JC Whitney hood replacement and then mod the rear fenders to be more teardrop and wheel fender covers. Let me just say... Like this, it did not work. _________________ Ossipon

A sad end for that car. It needs to be taken out of its misery. |

What's worse is that a fool like me who just wants one and would buy it not knowing how much of a money pit, it really would be to bring it back. _________________ Ossipon

Big time. Some prices I've seen.
Front Seats - $600 to $1200
Headlights - $1200-$2000
Foglights - $100 - $600
Upper Dash - good luck
Lower Dash - better luck with lotto
Steering Column - $1100
Upper door panels - $200 - $600
It goes on and on. These are becoming so hard to find parts and so popular because of their scarcity and present bench marks made in restorations, its redonkulus.
Anyone that wants one is better off saving 25-55k and buying one done. _________________
