Hi Guys, I am going to most likely buy a stock height 1965 Beetle. Will this drive onto a Uhaul car hauler (not the dolly) without issues. I assume pull the car on nose first. Anything else I should know. Thank you

I made sure that the ratchet straps were tight around the tires. Those are the main holding points. The chains are backup safety. I put the chains around the front beam and and rear torsion bars.
The car is narrow but it fits the ramps and the platform. Just have someone guide you on and off carefully. I transported it on the pictured uhaul trailer for over 150 miles without any issues. |

Thank you Sir. I think I want to check the lug nuts. Are they really 12mm? Do you know the torque spec. |

| 12x1.5 bolts, not nuts. I torque mine to 73 ft-lbs. |

And mine shifted during transport on the rails. Had to get a couple of people to shove it back closer to center at the end of the trip.
I bought a tow bar - I'm not using the Uhaul trailer any more.

How did it shift? The front of the trailer has wheel chocks, and the tires butt up against them and get pressed against them using the ratcheting straps. They should remain locked rock solid if strapped properly. The chains are just secondary safety, the straps lock the car in place.

I've used the Uhaul trailer once. The track is a bit narrow for a bug, but it still fits. Just use a spotter as someone else suggested.
I didn't have any issues with the car moving at all. I'm pretty meticulous about using the straps, and using extra chains or straps. |

Buy a VW tow bar,,,in n out in 5 mins.
Have hauled many a cars many a miles, not 1 issue.
No drama.

With the U-haul trailer, go ahead and add a couple of your own ratchet straps (maybe cross them) from the torsion tubes to somewhere on the trailer- just to reduced the chance of it crab walking a little over rough roads. Small stock tires have very little practical gripping contact with the trailer rails.
Bigdog1962 and I have had similar experience I think.

I had it ratcheted down and chocked but after 3 hours on the road and time to get it off, it was not a straight back down the ramp job. And there is no room to turn the wheel.
I like Hitest's description - crab walk.
With the rails being so narrow, any sift can make it much more difficult to get off the trailer. It can be done but I decided to not use a Uhaul trailer any more as I can't always depend on there being help to unload it.
