Hi there!
Any idea what this is off a 73 super beetle? Found it in the engine compartment.

I have a '73 Super and don't have that either. 2x what's the opposite side look like? And where do the wires run - along w/the harness up the left rear wheel well, in the factory harness? Or outside of it?

Do you have a tow hitch on the car, or evidence it had one? Trailer lighting adapter?

Super conducting fuel particle alignment device, to get a more efficient fuel burn. Easy +5hp there.

Did the device interrupt the green coil wire via the two green wires?

Thanks everyone for the replies! Wasn't attached to anything just bundled with wires. Other side looks identical. No markings or branding on it. And no tow hitch on car. This one's got me stumped Confused @riva do you know where I can find out more about what you've mentioned?

Was kidding about the particle alignment. I think it may be something like that though. Oil crisis snake oil device inline with the green ignition wire claiming to boost power or mileage, which somebody disconnected. My guess is potting inside and nothing else.

What was it connected to? Should give a clue. Colors don't look right for trailer 'box'.

Wild ass speculation... but my guess is electronic relay. Put an ohm meter on the black & white & I would expect to see "coil type" continuity... not truly open, or closed... couple hundred to maybe thousand ohms???

Put ohm meter on greens & look for continuity again... Normally closed contacts = 0.something ohms... normally open should read OL and change if you energize the B/W wires

If you are rewiring the whole car - just cut it out and throw it away.

I put a new wiring harness in a 49 mercury last year. I started out trying to figure out 30 years of wiring messes since it was restored in 92. I was much happier once I decided to stop trying to figure it out and just throw it away.
