I was debating whether to update this thread with such minuscule progress, especially so few read it, however, decided to.
On the way home from men's breakfast on Saturday, checked to see if a previous style bulb holder, which a friend gave me, work on the new Hella headlights and does. After we both had a look, realized the H4s with the tabs don't work with these, he has 45/40 watts without tabs I will be purchasing from him. This also means not over heating the switch or fusebox.
I also got the parking brake button/rod back in and the cables tightened so hopefully doesn't come out again.
What is odd is the nuts are over half way down the thread and they are new cables. Hopefully last more than a year, hate to have to replace frequently.
Has anyone seen from the factory a grey parking brake cover? I have it, was in the stash of parts Dad had, so going to use it. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Sounds like you need to loosen the nuts then adjust the rear brakes. After that adjust the nuts on the brake again _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof

I think you'd be surprised how many readers/followers of your thread you have. _________________ .

Jack, I am back to running on fumes, so my mind is barely working. Now you mention it, I remember I didn't have the shoes tight enough. Have to look at what Tram specified all that time ago. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Thank you both for pointing this out.
In about a 24 hour period last week, it was 116. I seem to recall far more, maybe my expectations are too high, including expecting help. Probably doesn't help that with this super busy world we live in, I spend more time with folks online than in life, though have not had enough to keep in touch with all the forums and groups I belong to.
By the way, regarding help, my dear friend in Oregon has concerns about information provided here on the forum, I said well you have not been available, and now is very available, have had more emails back in forth I think in the last year. We both have mildly abrasive personalities, however, this has oddly made for a great friendship. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. As post 1964. Seems to me a lot of changes were made in the 1965 model. So 1960 was the first year to have grey boots? |
After 1960, as in not in 1960. Before that the 1958-60 boot is different narrow shape.
There was grey before 1961 model year, but not quite as light a grey or shiny. Also 1965 was first year for the dual heater controls coming out of the parking brake boot. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I should have opened the package, turns out it was so dusty it looked grey.

If you have the twin heater levers on either side of the parking brake lever, that will not work for your beetle. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Long day, stayed well after supper time.
Found the passenger side axle seal is leaking. This is why I didn't tighten the axle nuts before adding oil.
How worn out am I? Forgot when you take the axle cap off, oil will come gushing out. Thankfully able to grab the funnel within reach and only a small amount on the garage floor. Then didn't know what to do with the funnel and how to get back into the bottle, so clamped to a box.
I saw there was rust on all four surfaces of the axle cover, found a really worn out piece of fine grit dry/wet sandpaper, sanded the face with the paper on a laminate surface. then wiped down the gasket and axle cover with denatured alcohol to get rid of any contamination.
While waiting for the oil to drain out of the axle, removed the fuel tank outlet, seems in the mess of my house being stolen, forgot to put a new sock in after doing the tank seal. Not totally sure, the sock looked red and mostly plugged, may explain the dribble out the tank outlet. I am glad the leak happened, I be wondering why the engine would not run or run lean. Wire brushed the threads until shinny, though just in case, installed a new outlet kit with a thin layer of Reinzosil. What I don't understand is how the hose is cracking in just about a year or two of time.
Then spent about an hour and a half fighting the foam gasket, I have trouble with time awareness. Should have stuck to the plan of using temporary fabric adhesive. I think part of the issue is the inner driver fender well is slightly pushed in at the forward corner of the tank, the tank will not go strait down, must have the corner inserted.
Went back, wiped off the oil, wiped down the backing plate with denatured alcohol, and installed the axle cap and gasket with a very thin layer of Reinzosil to take up any imperfections. Tightened down the bolts, let the Reinzosil cure before final torquing tomorrow.
Adjusted the rear brake shoes to almost tight. The driver side adjusters are binding on the tab springs, so pulled out and adjusted with my hands. Driver side is one and a half turns out where the passenger side is not adjusted out any.
By this time, absolutely knackered so didn't dare adjust the parking brake cables, too fiddly for when one's blood sugar is low.
Anyone know where this wire goes?
Should this electrical wire going to the starter have a lug for the 6 volt regulator?

Interesting, I thought 1965 was the first year for dual levers, didn't know a mid year change. Ruby is somewhere between early and mid, as has the knob heater control, wide plate lamp housing, and the larger turn signal housings (though as of now running the 1968 housings and lenses so the turn signals are visible from the side for added safety). _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Hey Eric, installing the boot, noticed does have the option for heater controls.

When I am in the mental and cognitive state I am in, can't see on the diagram where these wires run and more than one red wire, did try before asking on here.
Okay, so how does the wire on the underside run up and into the engine compartment and get to the generator? _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Those slits are to allow one to adjust the cable nuts without having to pull the boot all the way off. Pattern of texture of the boot is too early of style, but it wil work _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
