Is it just me, but the quality of repo parts is terrible. I installed a new wiring loom in my DC, with new switches etc. I finished it off and started testing, my headlights weren't working so I checked all the connections removed the headlights checked and double checked after no joy I used the old headlight switch and wham they are all go. The new headlight switch is faulty. It seems most of the repro stuff is crap, bought some wiper spindles with internal disengages and ended up throwing them in the bin from now on I will either refurbish or look for second hand. Sorry for the rant I just lost three hours of my life because i took for granted that a new part would actually be fit for purpose.

This sucks, but I am guessing the moderators will move this to the thread dedicated to complaints about parts for sale.
Good luck.

VW Reproduction parts are notoriously garbage and you probably won't see much improvement in the near future. Manufacturing in China has dominated many suppliers b/c of price (& lack of production elsewhere). The poor metals, & quality control suffers greatly. Being a very small part of the automotive industry ( VW enthusiasts ) you almost should expect what is available. OG parts will always dwindle away-just be thankful how successful VW "was" or you would be forced to drive a retro E-car/Bus Shocked . Cip1 being one of the guilty parties even rates their replacement parts and carries alternatives. We've all been disappointed at one, two, or even 3X finding that part. 100% restorations will continue to rise in cost, and Resto-Mods will be the standard for the rest of us. As long as I can drive my Bus until I meet my maker. BTW I have to give Kudos to Gerson the Green metal guy, that stuff is pretty damn good quality. "TECHNO" has all the $ today, & will eventually destroy what we love and push many into Golf carts that will destroy the environment faster than anything we've seen.

What's worse than poorly made repro parts? I'll tell you what's worse: When a vendor sells you a poorly made repro part that had obviously been returned by someone who purchased the same garbage part before you did, ruined it and sent it back to them. And you didn't check the part in the first 60 days after purchasing it but left it in the box with the rest of the stuff until you need it.
I do my best at attempting to recycle the old OEM VW parts when I can.

Been this way for years.

If possible, take the time to rebuild/repair your old parts. Many can be reconditioned to as new. And if you can't do it, try to find someone that can.

Might be more expensive at first but it will be cheaper in the long run

This^^^

Like most, my hierarchy for parts used to be :
1) NOS
2) Good Used
3+) Repro.

As Glenn has stated, That has been modified to
1) NOS
2) Good Used
3)Broken used but repairable
4+) Repro

Don't throw out any OG parts, you never know when they may become your best alternative.

Here's a comparison of original (right) vs best quality repro (left); I cleaned up my original and threw it back in.

After I threw it at the wall I then chucked it in the bin, so it sort of took itself apart.
