It was still metrologic summer here on Tuesday, autumn came on Wednesday.
What season it is today......you decide...........😉

22cm (9 inches) of snow from the northeast is very rare this time of year.

It will melt away in the next few days, so I had to take a test session in the Oval 1957 with newly installed heat exchangers.
Defroster works surprisingly well.

Car runs well in the snow, will put on winter tires during the coming week for more enjoyable drives during the winter.

I really enjoy our different seasons, after all this is Viking territory!😉

Greetings from a snowy southest Sweden.

In 1980 I had had 68 bug with absolutely no heat due to rusted heat channels. So when driving in the winter, everybody in the car was dressed for the Arctic.
the snow that would get in the car wouldn't thaw until spring. Eventually there was a glacier around the pedals. I had a string tied from the gas pedal to the radio knob for when the car would decide that it had cruise control. I was 17 then. It was always entertaining driving down the road, all passengers with ice scrapers in hand to clear the insides of the windows. That thing would go anywhere in snow. Now my bugs spend the winter in a heated garage and we drive Subarus.

like d havilland I had a 56 beetle in the early 80s. I took this photo after getting home from work - early - as I was the only one apart from the boss to turn up. 10 mile drive along country roads in derbyshire. it was below freezing most of the week and the bonnet was frozen shut so I was worried about low fuel!

The new winter wheels are now ready and mounted on the Oval 1957.

Typical Nordic winter tires with studs and really soft rubber.

4" wide rims and 165x15 tires.
14mm spacers in front and 25mm at the rear.

This should be fine when/if the real winter arrives.😉

A bug would be fun to drive in the snow. We don't get snow here.

Yes, very fun to drive when slippery, great grip with all the weight overs the rear wheels.

I remember when I was 16 I took my Bug out onto a bunch of flat grass in a park. We slid everywhere. You know as a teenager there was the new license, the first car, the sliding - so much fun. I had a lot of first time fun in that bug.

The grass has a slight frost on it. It was made to drive on for parking games, and such. Just drove and turned the wheels a little and found it was a little slippery. The car spun around a few times.

I don't find the heater in my totally stock '56 particularly impressive. Even just low 30's fahrenheit it just keeps the interior OK. Now I don't have carpet installed so it is radiating heat all along the heater channels so it could be blowing hotter at the windshield and foot vents. Do stock heater channels have a tube that runs from the inlet at the back all the way to the front by the defrost tubes? It seems like that would be help. My klassicfab heater channels just have a short tube welded into the heater channel, and so it's warming up the entire heater channel as the air travels to the front of the bug.

Weather is really nice and stable at the moment.

I took a long drive to test the newly mounted studded winther tires.
They feel just great, I am impressed by the amount of traction.

Rubber compound is really soft.

Not many cars with RWD these days.......especially together with rear mounted engine.

do you put some extra ballast up front? it's great to have traction but not much fun if you can't direct it

It stears surprisingly well, much better than the old winter tires.
I am more than pleased.
