I just finished up John M's Nov. 1951 longblock and he sent me his carburetor to rebuild/restore. I was looking at it last night
and didn't seem correct for his application. I believe his carburetor is for an industrial engine? I took a couple of photos of the
SOLEX 26mm carburetors I have and lined them up to try to find the correct one......Anybody out there knows which one is
correct WITH some type of authentication? Cheers Folks! Mr. Okrasa

OK. I saw the link that shows the differences. Now the question is:
Carb. #2 and #3 are SOLEX and have the "band" on the fuel bowl but if you notice,
both carbs have SOLEX on the bowl but #2 has the writing 26 VFIS. Now what???

Mine looks exactly like number 3. It has a 541xxx serial number. It has 26 VFIS to the right of the fuel inlet on the top half. My car is an October '51 deluxe and I believe the carb is original to the car. The car was driven for 11 years and then parked in 1962. Other than the Zwitter manifold (which was the standard replacement manifold for 25 hp engines until around '58 ), coil and regulator, everything else on the engine is correct. _________________ Chris

i purchased this solex 26 VFIS just to have as a spare for my "51" ..... im sure no expert just sharing what i think is the correct one for VW's as its got a small VW stamp on it n the proper linkage . Came from Neil Anderson in Denmark , it looked good to start , i took it apart , pulled all the brass n venturi , some carb cleaner n a toothbrush then blew everything out , then used a fine brass brush to help some of the brass , i have some NOS gaskets here im still trying to find for it . but i kinda made a trophy stand for it as its a TROPHY to me , its a super sweet one , folks are always talking about re bushing these but not needed here , i dont think , i think it any the second time to come apart from the looks of things ..... i hear that number is a date code ???
