The 56 YM got a "new" body, for faster production & because all the old pressings/dyes where worn out. They reduced the production time from 180 hours to 100 hours /car |
Yeah, many subtle differences in the body. 55 and earlier rear luggage floor is different (has a steeper curve down to the floor, and different profile to meet the wheel wells)
Rear inner wheel well/ quarter curves are different. Body mount at the rear shock tower has a deep triangle pressing that is missing later. Cross section where the heat tubes come through is different. _________________ modok wrote:

A lot of people have got a big surprise if they use a late oval body for sheet parts to an early oval, or vice versa.
Think the tank is mounted ia couple of cm lower in the trunk, too, for more luggage space. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

Yes I agree the wheel well pressing is different to match the rear seat move back.
Makes sense they swapped a lot of the dies out and streamlined production. Many aspects of the 1955 down are the same as the 30's and 40s versions, I believe. _________________ 1-0900722 die langsame grüne Schildkröte
