Not a lot of details and pictures for that price. _________________ Glenn

Nice early 55! It resembles what I restored as a teenager! Love the ribbed handles! Most likely a Deluxe model! Looks really clean in the pictures. If it were me I would want a shit ton more pictures that ARE NOT artsy fartsy. The photographer was playing with his camera lenses and being to artsy. They need to return and get some TECHNICAL photos! Would love to see the pan, the rear end with deck lid open and shut, both sides at a 90 degree angle, front and back with no fuzzy background. Love the Hearts, too!
Super nice car! _________________ Jimbo

Vin states its earlier than 9/55. Irrespective its appears to be a nice car but $45k nice? Need way more details, receipts history, etc and still $45k nice? Nice or not, if it were me I'd look for something closer to home and less money. But, it's your money. |

Looks to be a real nice car, Soulsurfer appears to be a legit seller all the way.
One thing though, just a minute detail from an Austrian VW weirdo perspective, but 'delivered to Porsche Salzburg'.
Can't really see the detail enough but 95 % sure the enamel badge on the left front quarter panel is from VW Liewers of Vienna. It is quite famous as many Vienna delivered bugs had it, but should not be on a Salzburg delivered car, and it should not be red. The badges were color coded and I guess a brown car would have a brown or beige badge. Red Liewers badges would most probably only be on black or red cars. just saying. maybe just personal freedom and taste. Possibly an add on gimmick and not original to the car ( unless it says Porsche Salzburg). _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

You also have to pay attention to : if it was delivered BY or TO Porsche Salzburg.
Porsche Salzburg, to this day, is the main dealer for Austria. so all the paperwork for all Austrian delivered Vws ( after ca 1953) is provided BY Porsche Salzburg ( Austrian papers, ie title). even if delivered to Vienna.
If the birth certificate stated 'delivered TO Porsche Salzburg', it should also have a Salzburg enamel badge to prove. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

The dates are in euro format. It would be May 55, not September.
Why receipt history? Look at the car and determine if it is what you want. Early 3-fold ragtops are not easy to find. I value a complete, unrestored 3-fold at around 25k. Then restore it. It costs a ton of cash and time.
To the OP, ask to see build pictures. Euro cars are notoriously rusty. Look for what the car started as. How much rust repair etc. If it was super rusty, ask for metal work pictures. You want to confirm that what you are buying was done to a high level under the paint. If it wasn’t, or they can’t provide pictures, I would pass. If you can confirm that it was a really nice car to start with, I think it’s a car worth buying. I love the color. _________________ 11/2/54 L227 Strato Silver Ragtop - Soon to be L41 Black - Build Thread

My thoughts? The car looks like a model car. Compared to the paint line, the sand in the parking lot, the crack in the asphalt, the very blurry backdrop, the scale of the car looks... off. I'd want to see a lot more photos and documentation. Real photographs, not artsy, staged photographs. |

Artsy pics or not, the rear bumper doesn't line up too well. the ends are pointing up. typical problem with ovals that had the rear bumper mounts replaced, or the originals bumped into and cracked. weak point there. ask me how I know ( 8 ovals and counting... )
The original interior is a huge bonus. The looks and quality of og factory seats can't be replaced imho. the brown 55 stripe cloth is classy as it gets.
You would want to at least see 100+ pics. 40 from under the car. rear quarters, body mounts, rockers, spare wheel well, front inner quarters, spot weld overlap aso.... _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Nice looking car, but hard to go check it out. Is there anything in the same condition/price here in the U.S.? _________________ Tom

Beautiful car.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but there are no pictures of the engine. An important factor in value is whether the car still has the original, numbers matching engine. And if the number on the crankcase is correct, what about the rest of the engine components. How original are they? There is another '55 for sale that looks very original for a much lower price, but of course not restored to the same level.
