The internet said my paint gun was terrible for auto paint. WRONG! I set it up as my paint buddy told me to and it did great! Almost no drag on the 2000 grit sandpaper. Only flaws were one bug and the lack of body work. Tonight, clear coat!

Three coats of clear. Next up for this lid will be lots and lots of elbow grease! After it cures... 600, 800 and 2000 grit then color sand, cut and buff.
1st light coat
2nd wet coat
3rd fog coat

I pulled all the tape and learned that 4 coats color over grey base and 4 coats color over white base is a huge difference.
Fail. _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

funny how that makes such a difference, I would have never thought, until I started shooting pearls on speed shapes of different colors. Lots of fun.

In natural light it is VERY obvious but the clear laid better than I though last night. _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

Sorry to hear that. Maybe doing the cut and buff will get you closer. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

It is much more gray than the nice paint.
Thinking on it, when I thinned it, it may have still been thinned from all those years ago and I made it too thin... _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

Got some purple metal flake that would make that car need sunglasses.

I will confess, the reason for spraying the 26 y/o paint was to practice with the gun. I needed to color change a bumper from the wife's car and had not wielded the gun in years.
This color change was from a metallic blue to Ford E8 bright red. Success! _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

Hey, anyone out there have any experience with using a cut off wheel to cut magnesium? I assume the dust is the combustible, more so than the formed metal, but... I am a bit leery of keeping the cut off wheel in a confined space for long enough to cut through about a 1" thick piece. Am I being over cautious?
Thanks!

We ground out blocks for flex plate access with a rotary file w/lots of sparks.
Hard to get it burning after we swept up the dust and burnt it afterwards.
It is a pretty significant fire once it gets started! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I'd have the nozzle of the shop vac hose right in there, just to keep the dust down. If you suck it away, then you don't have anything to catch fire.Just be careful around any steel while cutting the magnesium, as that be the spark that lights it off. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

After much effort to minimize what had to come off the car to redo the midengine set up, I have to tear the rear completely apart.
So... who knows what else will change back there... _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

Disassembly of the rear to get out the old nose cone complete! I had to remove the trunk floor, the rear most truss bar, cut out a nosecone mount and reroute battery wiring, but it is out. Next, clean up and make access holes for the new NC hex bolts to be tightened.

Next, I need to make the transmission mount area removable to put the new nosecone on and make is serviceable in the future (learn as you go). If that all goes well this week, I can start installing the shift rods and removing the old cable mounts.
Wish me luck!
Hoping to have ride height, trans, shifter, rocker and brakes all sorted in 4 weeks. Hopes and dreams! _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"
