A couple of weeks ago I had an interesting compliment on our 76 Westy we are restoring. A guy I would say in his early 30’s came up to me at the gas station and said “ WOW, what a neat new camper! What company makes these!”. Oh dear. Bob _________________ 1963 Convertible (Lizzie) and 1964 Convertible (Patience) 1976 Westfalia (Winnie) |

Had a guy see me putting gas in the front of the beetle, hood up. Came over with a very puzzled look on his face, and was stunned to find out the engine is in the rear of the car. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

Should have told him the gas goes directly in the engine just like the oil. _________________ Kafer_Mike

When my dad had a '63 Panel, he drove it to pick up some tires and the guy he was buying them from said "Neat van, what is it? A Dodge?"

Would you know a REO Speedwagon if you saw one in 1976? _________________ Glenn

Depends on whether or not the owner was gonna take it on the run. _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? Mending old things, preserving them, looking after them – on some level there's no rational grounds for it.”

A couple years back in a parking lot in our home town a 10ish year old boy looked at our Manx copy and asked his late 30's Mom. "What kind of car is that?"
"Oh, that's one of those new side by sides."

My wife was telling someone about the several VWs I had at home. "HOLY CRAP! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THOSE THINGS ARE WORTH NOW?" He said. Like a fool, I said........no? |
