My March 53 Barndoor came with one. It's held in place by 4 sheet metal screws. I know I've seen 54 bugs and buses with them. Not sure about 55 model year Canadian VWs though. I know by 56 they seem to be no longer a thing. However it seems not all pre 54 Canadian VWs had them. Why I'm not sure, but it is a pretty cool tag IMO. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

Entirely possible that the other screw fell out after 30 years of Saskatchewan farm truck use. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

I know of an early March built, Canadian delivered bus and it does not have a Volkswagen Canada tag, but does have the original german tag. |

On an Oct '54 Bus rescued in Ontario in 2008, no Canada Tag. Cruddy photo, sorry, but it's the embossed German tag.

And with the tags, they may have had this on the back as well...

I've (with help from others) been working to document this with a Canadian Barndoor registry, so far it looks like the Canadian VIN tags started in the second shipment of 53 (September of 53) and ended sometime in 1954. 1955 Canadian Barndoors don't appear to have the VW of Canada VIN. _________________ https://instagram.com/mr.ogpaint

thanks for the info Trevor, we have other buses from that delivery in March of 1953 without the VW of Canada VIN. Great info!
I'll do some research on the other buses in that shipment and report back. _________________ https://instagram.com/mr.ogpaint

Hi Patrick.
The Quebec Deluxe (Feb ‘55) has no Canada tag; just the usual 4 rivit vin tag and a made in Germany tag …….
