Paint Creek Campground, Cherokee National Forest. One of our favorite spots with some of our best friends. Hiking, biking, creek side camping, oh my!

Our late summer trip to Sue-meg State Park. 25 miles north of Eureka, California in the heart of the coast redwood country and beautifully set along the coast.

More about the adventure than the van…on the last warm day before frost, Marzi drove us here for an incredible day of mountain biking and off map hiking to “secret” water falls for end of season old person skinny dipping. Nothing better, ever, and an incredible home base to return to.
Happy adventures y’all!

Bought this 1997 EVC in the spring. Just washed, clayed, and waxed it for the winter.

Edisto Beach campground super nice cold but beautiful! Best part was 30 or so beautiful miles of low country gravel/sand road cycling. Really nice weekend.

Our last trip of 2022 in our new van--Seminole Canyon State Park near Del Rio, Texas, on the US/Mexico border.
The obligatory campsite photo:
From afar, these are the rock shelters where the 4,000 year old pictographs are:
This is the main pictograph, but there are hundreds of others in the shelter, and this region has hundreds of other sites like this:
Walking further along the rim of the canyon, you see how it was carved millions of years ago by floodwaters:
Still further, you see water enter the canyon from the Rio Grande:
And here is the border--that's Mexico on the far side:
We had a great trip, camping with another Eurovan friend.

One of the main reasons I have owned VW camper vans is to use them as mobile amateur radio stations.
In the US, we have a radio contest called the VHF Contest, held in January, June, and September of each year. In a nutshell, it's a chance to make as many contacts with other folks on certain frequencies in a certain amount of time. When you participate as a mobile station, called "Rover" in contest parlance, you earn bonus points, and fixed stations that talk to you also get bonus points.
Our last contest was June 2022, using my old 91 Vanagon, and it was the hottest contest weekend I can remember. We could not get things to cool down in the old van, and various electronics failed as a result. That experience was one of the great motivators for selling the Vanagon and getting a Eurovan.
Here we are in January 2023 and the new Eurovan Winnebago was used in its first VHF contest this past weekend.
This is the course we drive: a carefully planned driving track over the ten maidenhead grids in our area:
This is the inside of the van at one of the stops--radios strapped to the tables:
...and tamales being cooked on the galley:
And finally, some shots of the antenna setup:
We had a pretty good time, although the bands were dead, possibly because of the recent solar activity.
