I need some help identifying this item.
Recently looked at a very original, non-running late 1951 beetle which has been in storage for many, many years (not for sale). It has unique gear shifter and emergency brake attachments I have never seen before. Not really sure of its purpose. One piece of the accessory is bolted to the floor just behind the gear shifter and is wired to another piece attached on the passenger side of the emergency brake. When the emergency brake is engaged, a little plunger raises up. With the emergency brake down, I assume the electrical connection is broken. I haven’t tracked down what other electrical connections there might be or where it gets its power. The car has hydraulic brakes and regular lights.
Has anyone seen one of these, who made it or what it is supposed to do? Thanks!

Maybe some wild anti theft system?, the car won't start unless it's in reverse and the parking brake is on?
Or a gadget obsessed electrical fiddler that planned on backup lights and an E brake warning light? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
