I need to have my torque converter rebuilt for my type 3. I've checked with the trans shops around me and no one does VW type 3 stuff. I'm in Arkansas. Anyone know a good torque converter rebuilder.

Just curious, what are the symptoms that make you think the torque converter needs a rebuild? I have a link at home for a company that says that they rebuild them. However, it might be more cost effective to just pick up a used one.

The converter I have is real rusty from sitting outside. How can you clean the inside of a converter.

If it was sitting open side up, it probably got crap inside it. There is really no way to clean it out, that I know of. I've been working late the last couple of days. I will try and remember to send you the link. That way you can decide whether to have yours rebuilt, or try a used one. PM me if you don't get the link in the next day.

I'm in Ohio, and I have a torque converter STUCK to a type 3 engine I acquired. I've soaked it and pried but can't get it off. (yes the bolts are out).
If I can get it loose I'll sell it to you, whats it worth? I'm trying to not destroy it in the removal.

More than likely the snout of the converter is pressed into the end of the crankshaft. I've seen that happen before on Auto-Stick bug transmissions (I picked up part of someones collection). My wife's car was like that as well.It took some prying from both sides to get it off the flex plate.

I got the converter off the engine and have since listed it in the samba classifieds. The fluid that leaked out looked nice and clean.

I think you can clean up the inside with mineral spirits. You'll need to drill a drain hole (per Bentley) to allow you to drain it, unless you have one of those double hole plugs for draining and refilling it (at the same time).
As far as I know, there's nobody rebuilding them or making new ones.

I have used the double hole drain, and it is soooo slow, you better set aside a long period of time. I'm not even sure how much fluid that method really removes.
