I had to drive in salty slush water again today. It's taking a toll on my 73 Super's body. I'm going to buy a water pumper to drive during the winter.
I found a 2008 Jetta with 206,000 miles on it. It looks great, runs great, no leaks or shakes, and the PO has oil change and maintenance records over the life of the car. Asking price is $1800 or BO.
A friend has bought two used Jettas over the years and put over 300,00 miles on each of them.
$1800 doesn't seem like a bad price in todays market. Is it unrealistic to think I could get another 50,000 miles out of it? Are they difficult to work on, if for example, it needed a water pump or alternator?
My original thought was to find a Subaru with under 140,000 miles on it for under 4k. Even if a Subaru needs something I'm familiar with working on them. But, I stumbled on this Jetta just a couple miles away from me.
Does anyone see any issues in a used high milage Jetta that I'm unaware of?
Do you think it would be better to stick with the Subaru idea?
Thanks for any advice - really want to avoid a bad decision.

If it made it to 200K+ miles, it could be a good one. You don't mention which motor is in it, or the tranny.
I do know you'll want a VAG-Com to help with any diagnostics. |
