Fellow skier at Snoqualmie Pass, WA. Not parking spot near you - should have a designated area!

Had a very nice surprise sighting of a Vanagon Double-cab ("DoKa" in German, for Doppelkabine) on way to my office this morning, in north-eastern New Jersey! Drizzly weather so my crap cellphone camera could not get a sharp image; I enhanced it at home with Photoshop. "Transporter" emblem on the right. Larger than stock-diameter alloy rims. As the road went from single to 2 lanes I finally was able to catch up and pull next to it, then lowered the right window. Could hear the diesel engine, along with a nice turbo whistle as it accelerated. As I got even with the cab, there was nobody in the "driver's" seat- it was a right hand drive! Conventional NJ license plate. Driver was maybe in his 30's with bushy beard. I honked and gave thumbs up, then had to turn off. Montvale, NJ which is way north, just before the New York state border. |

Couple interesting antennas in this van (including one at the top of the windshield?), need to show it to the HAM operator at home to get her input.
There seems to be some flat (slightly rounded) black item at the front of the pop top, could that be another antenna?

Driving north as 3rd ave NW and 85th n in Ballard last week. I was at the light and there was one of us (me is my 87 Westy) on each corner North, South East and West bound.
In the 4-5 block radius of my house here in Fremont (again Seattle)there are at least 10 if not more. |
Yeah, I'm in Seattle too, but south (Beacon Hill). Around me they aren't rare but it's nothing like Ballard. I wouldn't be surprised if nowadays the highest Vanagon density world-wide is Ballard/Fremont/Wallingford. Maybe Portland has a similar hotspot. |

I don't know if there's a specific hotspot in Portland, but they're literally everywhere. I see at least one nearly every time I go out somewhere thats more than 10 minutes away. I know where there are around 10 within a 5 mile radius of my home in the suburbs. |

I can count eight within 1 mile radius of my house in Salt Lake City. There are three on my block alone. |

For highest Vanagon density, I nominate Santa Cruz California. Ditto for Subarus.

I saw this one up in Golden on Saturday. All original '85 AW, still had all of the cabinetry and stuff in it.
They posted it for sale a few months ago on CL for $50k.
Considering the oxidized paint, dents, stains, and generally worn-in condition, it looked like a $10k project to me. But it is all original, so there's that.
