Anyone know if VW installed Panasonic radios? Maybe in foreign markets?

In America, dealers installed the radio and other aftermarket items they could sell you. I believe the ones leaving the factory for US delivery had the block off plate.
Cheers!

Ditto in RHD world. As above I believe NO VW left the factory with a radio.

Reason? Every country had different regulations about radio frequency etc and no one radio probably could do every market.

For example in the 50’s and 60’s in Australia that I can remember, the locally fitted radios had the actual name of the radio stations printed on the clear radio faceplate. Very few radio stations were able or given licences to broadcast in those days.

I can remember brands like Astor, HMV, AWA and yes VW (of Australia) branded radios.

Panasonic (or National, Matsushita) radios were certainly available aftermarket in the 70’s as were many Japanese brands like Sony.

Thanks for the replies, that's all the great in info! I just have never seen any radio in the US other than a Sapphire!
This Bug is a 1962 ragtop and it also has these interesting Hella side marker turn signal lights...

Are they turn or parking lights?
Depending on the bulb, it could be wired for either. A good case for using a retrofit LED bulb, for low current draw, in either case.

If you use an amber LED bulb it will be seen better than white, with those (cool) faded lenses. And as I posted, much brighter, too! I can't tell from your pic, but the white side goes fore, amber aft.
