It has new wheels and tires. Looks like someone was trying to restore it. Why is it for sale? Blown transmission? |
Doesn't mention anything about a blown transmission. It does say that it's in daily use. _________________ 1988 Caravelle - FB25B - Syncro converted

Weird mix. Looks like an '89 Carat (Bluestar in primer?) with a blown engine and a wheelchair lift for $3200 in TN.

1986 Vanagon for parts or restoration. Manual trans, unmolested van. Center locker. Very clean undercarriage and minimal body rust. Has been off road for nearly 20years, sat in previous owners garage nearly all that time. Windsheild has crack, Center drive shaft is missing, and shifter linkage is broke at center knuckle- trans shifts if you slide under and manually command it. Motor will spin over by hand (alternator is locked up so belts are cut). Van come as you see it with clear NY title
Price is 5500$ picked up in upstste ny schuylerville area. Will roll onto trailer just fine- if using a dolly you will beed wheels and tires as these are not road worthy.
I have walk around videos if needed. |

Whoever buys that is putting a larger hole in their wallet than the hole through the engine block. Or the chassis. _________________ '87 Syncro

It is indeed Alan Brase's place. Same ad also on theSamba.com
this one has been sitting in Kevin Lichty's shed for 15+ years. (Lichty was the best German car repair place for years. he retired and moved away.)
Condition not that great, but far from horrible.
I'm tempted to just drop a different motor in it and get it driving. Trying to decide if that would give me a better return on time investment than fixing one of my (many) other projects. I really need to liquidate some vehicles.
How is the market for running, driving tin tops?
I know my brother in Omaha sold a VERY nice one a couple years ago for about $5000.
I've had almost ZERO interest in this one. One guy would buy it for parts. _________________ Al Brase

I took the liberty of posting that photo with the Targa in the background in a Porsche spotting thread on a different site, if you wonder where the sudden interest in that car comes from. I can nuke that post, if you like. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

Thanks for your sensitivity, but not a problem to make interesting back ground.
I put the original pic on theSamba, Craigslist and FB.
I had several clicks because of my Targa in the back ground. One was a very pleasant exchange with an old friend. Now I understand how he noticed it.
I used that photo because it was the most flattering to the Vanagon regarding the paint and overall straightness of the car.
The 1967 912 Targa MIGHT possibly be for sale sometime but it will get its own advertising. The Targa is rather badly bent in left front and entire rear. If you don't have a Celette and straightening skills you might be under water paying someone to restore it. _________________ Al Brase
