'they' didn't come with a filter you can see. The removable nut on the bottom of the tank holds the inlet pipe filter.
Just about everybody adds another fuel filter but not in the engine compartment

If you're going to install an inline filter, this is probably the best location for it. As runamoc said, don't put it in the engine bay. You can search through the gallery for all the pics of engine fires to see what can happen if you do
