I found a battery tray with a drain. Given all the carnage from battery acid in these cars, has anyone drilled a hole in the pan, installed a grommet and ran a drain hose out side the car. This part is for a 1961-1971 Jaguar.
Thank you

Drilling a hole in the pan for a drain, is not a recommended practice.
Buy one of these battery mats and place it in the Jag battery tray you show above.

The problem with the mat is, I still have to keep looking to see if it leaked. A drain would solve this. _________________ 1965 Beetle, 1970 1600cc DP 60HP, 12v |

Where would you drain it to? (Battery acid will eat its way into concrete garage floor, at least that's what it has done me.) |

Being on the lowest part of the car, water would easily get in whenever driving in the rain. The battery would be much higher in the car in the tray's original application so this would not be a problem.
Find a tray with no drain and use the aforementioned acid mats. Under normal circumstances with no charging system issues, acid shouldn't be leaking. A periodic check of the battery should be part of a standard maintenance routine on an air cooled VW. _________________ Chris

Batteries unless completely sealed always sweat some acid. Battery mats only work for while and all too soon just end up soaked in so much acid that the mat just becomes a super acidic mat. If one has an earlier beetle with the strap over hold down, personally have gotten a close enough plastic battery box. Throw the lid away cut down the sides and if need be cut it down lengthwise and do some plastic welding. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

No worries about leakage if you use an AGM battery. _________________ '65 Sunroof Bug |
