Is this an original part or anyone know what it is? It’s spring loaded and folds down

Might be some kind of cowboy hat holder? |
How strong is the spring to pull down on? Do you have a fish scale you could pull on it with?
My first guess is umbrellas. Could they have even made the wet stains? |
The water damage it from the sub hatch leaking and no I don’t have a way to text but it does have some good resistance on it |
I meant the water stains on the driver (left) side of the roof there. It almost looks like where the top of wet umbrellas were. The handle end was on the hatch side. |
Kind of a cool accessory. I’d keep it. Useful for camping. Maybe for maps?
People in WA do not use umbrellas.
The roof wood looks normal for a sub hatch westy that stayed outside in Oly Wa Just wasted.
I got a whiff of the bus off that funky fabric even through the screen. Had some nirvana playing on a tape cassette with it. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Congratulations with such a nice Westy-find! It's seems to be in a very nice shape with not a lot of rust. And it looks like it's originally been painted in a single colour of Sealingwax Red, which is pretty rare on a Westy as far as I know. |

I thought maybe I'd seen a yacht overhead chart tube holder like that but couldn't find a photo. I did come across this rack.

A bit of an update, bus is now mechanically complete and I had my first test drive last weekend. It will be going in on Tuesday for its out of province inspection. Fingers crossed it will pass. I also got the headliner about 99% complete as well
