Ive seen bikes with beat out cases way worse than vw cases due to somebody replacing a piston, usulay a big bore piston and it weighs too much... always lighten the new paiston to the weight of the oe piston or have it rebalanced.... ya like thats gonna happen.. some of the old cases had steel inserts where the main bearings go in the case to help the case survive longer in single cylinder apps..Ive seen those move up& down in the case as much as 1/8" and hears oh it just needs a bearing...no it needs a case and the right size /weight piston.( effed up crank can also do it) so beware when adding a big bore kit. the extra power dont matter much but that extra weight does. I used to open up the cases for the harly shop on big bore kits..they didnt have a clue and didnt care. if it came back for a rebuild it was just extra money comming in..... I was going to go about .250" bigger bore on my 4 wheeler years ago( sleving) but I couldent find all the specs I needed to find to do it, motor cycle stuff dont have all the info like car stuff does.( pin size, comp hight etc) I ended up just doing some mild porting and closing the hemi chamber up on one side. it does need a lot bigger carb on it.but I dont ride offten so,.. fuck it it's fine. good luck with the thingymabobby your maken. |
