I have been puzzling this indent and screw area for some time now. It is too low for an arm rest, it is not really used other than one hole for the door panel. And I can tell the other threaded area was never used. What is/was its purpose.
There was obviously a design reason for the indent and threads, but what?
Was it to hold the door as it was in the assembly or something else?

Without any model or year info I'll say it looks like a great spot for a nice speaker! My 66 is the same. The window gear might chew up the back of a speaker in this spot....

Now this makes sense. My Z arm rest does not have that mounting post closest to the edge. I looked at mine earlier for that very reason. It does not look like it ever had that tongue. It has every other mount point. And the one threaded points don't look like they ever had a bolt applied.
