I do have helpers, yes. To clarify, I am having trouble putting the rubber around the glass. I get a short section on and as I move around the window, it slides off the previous. Having arthritic thumbs is not helping. Rolling Eyes

I put opposite corners on then get the other opposite corners on then work around the flat sides. I pinch the rubber so it opens like a duckbill working my way around on opposite sides.

Are you using sealant between the glass and the rubber?

Thank you, BaryL! I used a combination of this and a couple of pieces of blue tape. All set and almost ready for a trip to Moab!

I used some WW seals on my baywidow, and they were a bear to get on the glass. I also ended up using yards of blue painter's and some duct tape. I had less trouble with a WCM seal, FWIW.

At least you don't have the added fun of thin metal Deluxe trim in the seal.

This is a good idea. I'm also going to make sure the window is much cleaner. Maybe the dust and dirt is keeping the rubber from "gripping" the glass.

Thank you and BarryL for the suggestions.

Cheers,

Tony

Lots of great information here. Thank you!

I have the the Wolfsburg West seals. I am having trouble getting them installed to the window. I get it started and using my thumb work the seal around the window, but they keep popping out. I replaced them maybe 25 years ago, but don't recall having this problem.

Any words of wisdom or general tips? What am I doing wrong?

Had two warm days so did some final cleanup of the goo. Warm weather not a prerequisite but it is more fun.

Break flat sticks in half then split them. Use rough end to remove goo. Don't smear-swipe but more of a remove swipe. Replace stick every time.
Coleman fuel cleans leftover followed by alcohol followed by water.

Now that we have rain coming, maybe I should put the 65 on the street to test my windshield efforts.

Major mitigating factor: in last January's storm a 125' fir fell and crushed a friend's Syncro singlecab with hardtop. Might wait until gentler spring for a test.

Many squalls hit this last storm just over. Watertight.

Totally watertight. Bulletproof. I did kinda' overkill on the goop though.

Really needs to be over six months to be sure.

That is the longest with just new rubber without sealant without garage or canopy. Then definitely in our wet rainy weather it would begin to leak. Think that a certain amount of dirt has to get into between the seal and body to wick the water inside the interior.

do you have access to other window seals with seams that actually look good?
NOS Volkswagen made seals have the diagonal seam in the top middle and formed corners.

Most aftermarket ones have a perpendicular seam are just hoops with no formed corners, so you can put the seam wherever you like. The corners will suck, and the seam won't look original.

The seals I sell have formed corners and the seam in the middle of the bottom. Maybe you could sand down the seam and make a new diagonal seam in the top middle if it is that important to you.

I only sell the best quality seals with formed corners. Lesser quality ones that still look wrong are available from parts suppliers that sell lesser quality parts for less money.

This photo has an optical illusion that the pulling cord is at the top of the window; it is not. The actual cord is about a half foot above the child-cot bracket. The rest of the string in that photo is a reflection of the real string.
