I see ya all talking about my car
I just got my first job working as a tech (in training atm) for a small Aussie company called Intergraphics Technology. Basically we import, install and support and repair industrial printing and cutting machines. So yeah I do plan to use my new contacts I will be forming to get a limited amount of these made. After all a lot of our customers make vinyl car art and signage of all kinds.
I also have a mate who does car pin striping for a living.
Hold your horses I will get some made but it might be a while. Learning how to use CorelDraw atm as its the standard program used here in AU for cutting. So I will make up some files eventually and pass it to one of our customers to make some. |
Hello Vlad01,
Have you ever seen another Type 3 the same color as yours, Royal Glow?
How about another Type 3 with the Australian Racing Stripe?
The Color and Stripe Kit must be pretty "rare" on the Type 3's in Australia.
I haven't had much luck finding different photos of the Stripe Kit other than the ones provided, it amazes me until recently that other Type 3 enthusiast have never inquired about this Racing Stripe Kit, when I think it is one of the Koolest accessories for the late model Type 3's. |
Yes i have seen other stripe like this, but only 2 i think? One was on carsales.com.au and a member of the aussie forum has one I am pretty sure.
As for the color I have seen a late sb in Castlemaine, Victoria not far from my own town. I couldn't tell for sure coz i saw it from the train as it passed through. I have seen it there twice from the train in that same town.
It looked restored so it might be not the original color or even the same color, although it looked like the same color?
btw it took me 7 months to find out the color name, thats how rare it is.
Apparently the story goes 2 old rich ladies in Adelaide bought it special ordered as it was to go into a show/exhibition of some kind?
it was put out of action in 1985 at 44,000 miles
Picked up by kombi rescue in Sydney and sold to a mid aged couple in Bondi in 2008 and finally put back on the road. I bought it for 5K in june 2010 at 46,500 miles
drove it down to my place in sate of Victoria and it still in the same place i parked it in as seen in the photos.
So far i am just buying parts, NOS and various upgrades. Concrete is the next task as you can see the dirt floor I have |

They've emailed to ask if I want matt or gloss, the original's look to be matt but knida like the idea of shiny stripes |

They still make them,
Not worried about originality regarding the colours so think I'm going to go classic 70's with bright Orange with Chocolate Brown lettering, my cars sunburst yellow, which is more like milky custard but guess that doesn't sound so good,,,
Bit like this rubbish mock up;

nogoodwithusernames,
Oh, I like that green. Do you know what the paint code is for it? I didn't see anything like it in the paint/upholstery section here. |
I'm pretty sure the Color is Apple Green G26 and is an Australian Color. |

Typ3nut: The reflective gold stripes on the matte-black, magnetic background are AWESOME!! I really like it with the black background; it just looks right to me and its a perfect combination for the green!! Congrats on that!!
Someone should start offering that for sale. . .  |
Thanks on the compliment.
Original stripe colors offered were white, black & gold, only saw it fitting that gold would make a great combo and something different with the black shadow background. The background and stripe combo can be rolled up and stored in shipping tubes for safe storage.
I don't recommend using this magnet during the day in direct heat and sun. May burn into paint finish or blister. Don't let moisture get between the two.
I've had this stripe stay on my car at 70 mph, the magnet material is door sign grade.
Attending several local events with the stripe on and off were people see the car and say" there's one around here just like that one with or without the stripe".
Shows really nice at night with the reflective, gives the car a completely different look. |
