Ive been told Eastwood is the only way to go, been using the aerosol spray in all the inner metal and in between the salvageable pressed metal, like the doors and around the windows.

So, what are your thoughts on the Eastwood Rust Dissolver? It looks like it works ok. Does it take multiple applications to get the really deep stuff? My bus roof is covered with a good coat of surface rust. It grinds off to clean metal, but I'd like to minimize the grinding or blasting.

Nice bus!

Okay, so here we go again, the passenger and cargo doors are getting hammered out and had to replace some metal on both. The frame is pretty bad, might just have to replace the whole frame to be cost efficient...ANY IDEAS???

HELP!

I found some older pictures of the bus. She sat like this for a few decades. Pretty much everything was there, minus the middle seat and a few other items.

Does anyone know if these mirrors are original?

We are starting work on the frame, then going to the floors. Working from the inside out. With all the body work done on the nose, would have been cheaper to just buy a replacement one..

Well, found out we have a few non paying tenants living in the bus. The squirrel nest almost caught fire when we were replacing metal.

Have some more photos to post, coming a little slow as the body panels seem like they may never come. Didn't want to go with the WW panels, but they seem to be the most repsonsive for a decent price.

The nose had some major damage but the dents were popped out. The rear corner was crushed in and has now beed popped out and primed.

Progress has been a little slow through the holidays, but got some major sanding and body work done. The nose is sanded down with a few extra surprises, rear corner dents got pulled, and 10 pounds of crud was removed from the undercarriage.

looks like a great project! Don't mean to nit pick but can you please get some proper jackstands under the bus, not concrete blocks! Would hate to see the bus drop, especially with someone under it.

Lotsa sheet metal available these days, hopefully you won't need too much. Are you going for a 100 point resto or a "patina'ed" driver?

Who is the person you have lined up for the body/paint? They worked on buses before?

Should have some more pics up in a few days, getting the body panel parts list together. After seeing some of other resorations, I'm not feeling nearly as bad about this.

So here are a few pics as it rolled into the shop to begin the work. Lots of work to do. The drivers side wont be too bad I hope. We have already sanded down the pasenger side and it looked pretty clean. The floors and beams need to be replaced. I am not planning on a show winner, just a great looking driver that is solid.

This bus looks awesome!!! Looks super clean and all the bad stuff is already gone. I only wish my first project and one I just picked up was as solid as this. Best of luck...you can get-er-done.

@ reeler, it is scary how little rust your bus has, what a rare find.

I think as long as I can get the metal and parts in with in a decent time frame, then I think I can do it. I'll have several things going at once, and the major stuff is being out-sourced.

I should have a bunch more pics up this week.

Very sweet find. Bringing a 23 window back from the dead is a noble cause.

If you can do this by summer that would be amazing. I am shooting to have mine done by summer of 2014.

I look forward to following the progress!!!

Nothing better than a 23! Nice bus and it's better to set a tight deadline and try to hit it than be one of those '10+ year restorations'. Smile

Just because they take longer doesn't mean they turn out any better (also count in opportunity time not driving it...).

Good point... I am trying to get mine done for my Daughters' Grad formal event.

Gordo.
