Thats actually one of the things that it was at Valley Westies / C.A.R.S (Complete Auto 8 Silver Creek Drive Staunton VA) I found some MGB or classic Mini 7" headight buckets. These are fully sealed with the wires coming out of a small hole in the top. The Vanagon when the front was cut there ended up a hole that rain water easily navigated through. So we were solving that problem also re wiring it so that we had some LED lights up front. _________________ 1990 Vanagon GL _ Brunhilda (marked up as a Caravelle from new!) Thank you all for the kind words. The westrailia is currently in VA being painted the same blue as the 85. The 85 ended up with a 2006 2.5l Subaru VVT engine, which pulls quite nicely. Yes the guys at Valley Westies are good friends, Keith and his wife Tracey were actually in our wedding and Paul & Daria and Bob all drove up in convoy from VA to MA for the wedding. It was repair, we were making the front stronger as there were no cross tie-ins in the first pass and the join for the grill and windscreen had a little flex and cracked slightly allowing rust to form. _________________ 1990 Vanagon GL _ Brunhilda (marked up as a Caravelle from new!) I saw that trailer under construction (or repair) at Valley Westys in Staunton a few years ago.

If you disassemble the cv shaft, you only need the last part, the stub axle. Just assemble the stub axle in the control arm like normal and torque it to spec. _________________ '87 Syncro Ferric Oxyhydroxide Superleggera Edition

| Engine bay would be awesome for a custom cooler for food while camping and storage for all cooking utensils slightly expensive to build perhaps but cool none the less |

Nice. Seems you could have kept the engine in there, then it would be easier to pull

Only took the engine out a couple of weeks ago. So now it weighs less but the balance point has moved as the engine meant there was weight behind the wheel. The idea is to put a genny in the hole where the engine was and run it off propane. But time and money first. Oh yeah and a bigger engine in the pull bus not sure if I am going TDi or 2.5 Subaru. I know that is like 2 opposing religions but hey what the heck might as well kick the hornets nest _________________ 1990 Vanagon GL _ Brunhilda (marked up as a Caravelle from new!) Nice job. Family of six? No problem.
(Looks kinda heavy, though. What's your drivetrain in the tow van?) |
Actually you can see in some of the pictures the bus didnt mind it at all (nowhere near as much as my 4runner which was dragged down!) Just for running around town to the shop and this show the van only has a balanced blueprinted 1.9 but more power is in the future. _________________ 1990 Vanagon GL _ Brunhilda (marked up as a Caravelle from new!)
