You can probably legalize that thing by now. It's old enough.

Wondering what they did with the '57 VIN plate.😳

This T25 Singlecab was sold to Vanamania some years back. It was bought from a guy from the San Francisco Bay Area, who supposedly brought it over a decade before from the UK. The man is a Brit expat. He said it was originally a diesel which he converted to aircooled. By the time I saw it, it had a 1.8 inline-4 with a Weber so close to the frame rail that it was not possible to put an air cleaner on it. It was ran that way and would occasionally have flames licking out from the backfiring.

He was advertising it as an '82. Money changed hands. When the papers arrived after the bill of sale, it said it was a 1957 Singlecab. This vehicle was only driven to Van-O-Rama and bURNINGvAN as the new owner was apprehensive about the consequences of this defective title. Inquired with a "friendly" CHP officer. He said the VIN is not stolen and just don't drive it like you stole it.😳 Anyway, it never sat well with the new owner. Eventually an offer was made by Vic and money changed hands again. The were some outstanding issues unrelated to the truck but with the same party. As a consequence, the title is still with (ahem) YOURS TRULY. As far as I was concerned, it was sold as a parts truck.

There were large dents on the cargo bed and rust damage on several areas. On my subsequent visit to sort out other matters in Pahrump, I was shown the truck in partial restoration. It appeared some bodywork had been done though the quality and extent is unknown. The doors had been replaced. Replacement gates were provided but not installed at that time. The engine and transmission had been removed and so was the 2-person bench seat - replaced with armrest seats. It was being advertised as a 1985 model sans title for $4900 right here on Samba. I don't know how the present owner had come to own it. I can only assume it was purchase from Vanamania or perhaps he is selling on their behalf.

(Edited to correct typos, etc.)

And that's what scares me.
Vic is right "Over the hump in Pahrump", as slick and sleazy as they come, brought in a bunch of these. Knowing him I would expect them all to be parts car status.
If this is one of his its very likely to be a pooched situation.

A triple Z (ZZZ) vin number on a vehicle over 25 years old is not a problem.

A vehicle imported as a "parts" car might be. The Feds would want to make sure it's not structurally unsound.

Its not normally an issue when they are imported properly. Those letters are for the most part european market vans, they had the 112hp gas engine and they would not have had been available to the US for emission issues and so on. So to legally import them they would have to been done according to US standards.
The problems arise when these vans come into the states for parts only. They for go all the normal import procedures and from what I can tell are listed as such, making for getting a title difficult.

This Syncro in nearly perfect shape(iirc) sold for just under $10k just a little while back.

Only link I could find to it. Seems like it would be hard to build the project van into as nice a shape for less.

WV2ZZZ24ZCH049290 from the add.
This smells like it was one of those "vic" specials from zsi or what ever hes called out there. You can search feed back on the forum here for zsi.
Sounds like someone who fell for the lie and bought it, now can't title it. From what I remember reading somewhere none of those vans were imported correctly (parts only) and now its turned into a head ache for unsuspecting buyers. Can't say for sure that this is "one" of those but I would seriously do your homework before you hand over cash.

What seems to be the problem here? No title but a bill of sale?

Get the VIN. Ask the seller if it is stolen and tell him you will call the police to run the VIN to make sure it isn't. Offer him twice what the scrap value is in Vegas. Have cash and a trailer waiting at the curb.

This T3 is over 25 years old so there should be no reason that you cannot register it in your state. It meets the 25 year exemption rules for the US EPA, DMV, etc......

The parts to convert to LHD are available. Shouldn't be too difficult?

Giddy up! Very Happy

I wish I was closer, I have a shifter kart I could trade him Very Happy I just don't have enough time to go down and get it.

Would be a fun project, I've been wanting a single cab to turn into a dump truck. I would keep it RHD too.

So Levi, if you plan on heading to SLC anytime soon, make room for a single cab Wink
