I hope they sell replacements of those... otherwise, I'll just use a lot of scotch tape |
Take some plastic, cut it to a rough shape, and glue it on there.

Oh, there was a plastic barrier, but it wasn't good for much anymore. I hope they sell replacements of those... otherwise, I'll just use a lot of scotch tape |

I was worried about breaking something with the amount of gentle persuasion I was giving it. Good to know I just have to keep banging at it.
Also, very nice art! |

Remove the small Philips screw and then you should be able to wiggle the handle off the shaft like Allwagons said. If they are corroded onto the shaft, it might take a little gentle persuasion to break them loose. A couple of light taps with a hammer should do it.
The conical spring is there to locally push the trim panel out to close an gap to the handle. _________________ Later,

I recycle old cars and parts, other than when I rot, that's as Green as I am going to get.
Thanks to my Tesla driving neighbors, I feel more relaxed driving my SUBURBAN and old VW's.
Everything sounds good on paper! |

I'm getting ready to remove the doors on Fargo, my 72 Squareback, which meant unplugging the speakers in the door cards, which meant removing the door cards. I don't think I'll be reusing these because they're kinda gross (bare metal would honestly look better, once I vacuum all the debris out of the door), but I tried to remove them carefully and, for the most part, succeeded.
However, I'm confused about my window winders.
There's a little phillips screw that I removed which seemed to do nothing. The handle wouldn't come off and the window still rolled up and down normally. With this car, things being rusted together is a common theme, but even after some semi-firm prying it wouldn't pop off or do anything to make removing the door cards or the handle easier.
Furthermore, there's a conical spring (as it's called in the Bentley book) which I guess pressed the door card against the little rubber gasket so the handle could spin without interfering with anything...
Well, now the springs are half hanging out, and the cards are still in because the PO decided that, rather than crimping a spade connector on, they'd just solder the wires right to the speakers.
Photo dump of all this stuff below:
In other news, this also happened:
Never posted it to The Samba because I post all my updates and adventures on Oppositelock, another general car forum. I come here mostly for expert advice, and am never disappointed.
Restoration is moving right along. Once the doors are off, we weld bracing into place, undo the little bits and bobs holding the engine and frame, and then separate! Then I have to learn how to cut and weld, which should be... interesting...
Hope you're having a swell weekend too! |
