Here’s Celeste. She is a 64 vert that I bought from the second owner in PA last fall. The first owner, who was a surfboard shaper here in Jersey, painted her from red to this minty blue and swapped in a 1600dp and modern vw Jetta seats into the front. (In the market for low back seats. Pm me if you got any)
The car is far from original, but I love her so much.
I’m in planning stages, but she’s going to get a full tear down in the coming year for a body off paint job. But for the moment, just tinkering and trying to understand the hodgepodge of parts installed over the years.

Amazingly well preserved car and I love the color as well as the very rare interior color.
Enjoy! _________________ Marc

Congratulations. Looks sharp. Hope to see more pictures. I have a 71 as well. Not sure exactly how early but the front bumpers are the same from early 60s to 1971. The rear bumpers had more changes over the years due to reverse lights, rear wheel arch shape and towel bar changes.
Enjoy. _________________ Marc

Just picked up my '70 Ghia a few days ago, and drove it 80 freeway miles back home to Laguna Hills, CA. Runs beautifully with replacement 1600 with new carb, tracks straight, shifts precisely. Love the orange paint....you can see it from space! Had a '74 914 in Signal Orange and I'm partial to the color. I'll post a few more pics in a day or two...engine, interior, frunk.

Very nice car. Nice neighbourhood too.
Are '70 and '71 the best Ghias, technically and in appearance? _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Thanks, Kiwi!
I was hoping to find a '68 or so...I prefer the front turn signal lights/housings and smaller taillights. But the '70 is a close second and I found a great example. It does have the IRS suspension and 1600 dual port engine, but I prefer the '68 painted dash.
Anyway, it's wonderful. Originally a California car (sold at Abbes VW in Livermore), it has zero rust perforations and only a touch of surface rust here and there, such as the bottom of spare tire well. Original pans are solid. I've had and driven a lot of more powerful cars and this is such a nice change of pace...a cruiser with high style. I plan to keep it as stock as possible. |

Here is my new Ghia that I picked up a couple weeks ago. I had a 1969 Ghia years ago that I sold for a variety of reasons and I always regretted selling that car. Well, many years and cars later I happened across this and couldn’t say no. Feels good to have a Karmann Ghia back in the garage.
Yes, the PO had an engine fire incident (fuel filter has been moved). |
