Posts like this are going to make me want to buy an example of the other Champagne color combo! (My '78 is white over brown.) |
So not all 78's had the reddish brown color above the belt line? I'll get my M-Code info. posted shortly. The pics I've taken of the plate with my cell phone are illegible. I'll have to try contorting myself for a tracing. _________________ - 1977 CEI Sunroof Bus 2.0L F.I. Hydraulic Lifters

The transporter models were the "reddish brown", the Westy version is white over brown. |

There is an original paint CE I a block away from me. I will try to catch the owner and get the info and a few photos. It has been sitting for a few years with a blown engine. I knew the previous owner as I had sold him a beetle 15 years ago. If I can get any history, I will. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |

Thanks cdennisg, that would be very cool! So far the CE I info pretty limited.
Oscarsnapkin, the CEII's that were converted to Westfalias were white over brown, accompanied by all the regular Champagne II fixin's _________________ -Tony

| I created the Registry then I started a new group page. The group will make it easier for others to post ask questions and you will get instant notifications. You can also post files for all to see. |

I just got a 1978 Champagne Westfalia ( I believe). It has the brown dash and although it has been sprayed white, there are sightings of the Agave Brown in the door jambs and engine compartment. The fronts seats, door panels, and carpet are from a sage green bus, but the rear is the brown plaid. This was a dear friend's bus who passed and his family gave me first dibs. My plan is to make it close to original (may put Riviera Vista hightop on)and make it my forever bus. I am excited I found this thread. The bus is currently in Virginia and needs to make it's way to Asheville, NC.

Absolutely wonderful, thank you for contributing!
Would you mind posting the last 6 of the VIN and the build dates on the silver sticker on the driver's side door jamb?
Definitely a Champagne, unless someone went to a lot of trouble to get a brown dash
tonychavalia, I received your CE list, and I'm going to combine it with the master list soon enough. hopefully it will be enough to push us over 52! _________________ -Tony

| Cool find, unfortunately you wont be able to swap a Riviera top with out alot of work. The Riviera company used sunroof transporter buses and converted them where by 74 Westys had their own specified roof opening. It can be done but difficult. |

I put a Riviera top off a 78 bus onto my 70. The hole for the RIV is larger than a stock sunroof hole. As I recall, Westy used sunroof buses for awhile, but RIV cut their own hole. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |
