I'm interested also. When I redid my floor the og lino was there but totally wasted and unusable. The only og part left are the little wedges that go under the bed. Looking at the wedge and the picture previously posted. Were there two different linos used? My westy is a late 67.

Previously posted. Early SO-42 westy??

like most vw things i imagine they exhausted the old stock before starting with the new so it is possible for late splits to have a smattering of early bay westy materials (i.e. lino etc)

i doubt VW ever thought that people would be pondering over this minutae almost 40 years later!! Smile

hey i gotta a couple more floor questions...since mine was missing the floor board...

what's the total thickness of the floor board/linoleum?
does the flooring go under all the removable interior pieces?
is the floorboard attached somehow to the metal cargo floor? glue? screws?

thanks, mark

Close as I could find. Sample is a little off. It is basically the same gray.

My OG flooring (lino and 3 ply subfloor) measures 5/16 of an inch. Keep in mind it has probably absorbed moisture over time and is a little thicker than factory specs

Yes, the flooring goes under all interior peices.

The flooring is not glued, if I remember correctly there are some screws that hold the floor down. When the table is set up the leg has a catch in the floor with 3 screws in it, measuring about 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch. They do go through the cargo at least in my bus. One other spot I am thinking of is the aluminum retainer at the cargo doors. I am pretty sure the screws went through the floor there as well (5-7 screws I think?). Lastly, can't remember this one for sure but there is a metal strip to wrap the bottom edge of the drivers side long wood panel. Part of it either screws into the lino/wood flooring or it screws into the cargo floor under the lino/wood flooring. Guys??

Hope this helps.

It's hard to know what it would look like without seeing a larger sample. Are your camper seats covered in cloth or the mustard-yellow vinyl?
Personally I'm sticking with gray because that's as close to the original as I could get.
I'm still looking for exterior grade plywood in 5X5 sheets in that thickness. I don't want a seam in the middle of the floor. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there something besides wood that would work, like 1/8" fiberglass honeycomb or something like that?

wouldn't a 5'x5'x1/8" baltic birch plywood sheet be good enough?...

Mark--
Not if it gets wet IMO--the "normal" baltic birch sheets are interior glue. Plenty of ways for liquids to get under the flooring in a camper, such as spills in the cab area that run down the walkthru "ramp", wet feet or rain intrusion near the cargo doors, spills/splashes in the sink area, water that gets in around the drain hole for the icebox, etc etc etc. I don't want to be out camping when one of my little girls spills a glass of juice in the camper and be forced to remove my entire interior in order to dry out the area under the floor.

Im also not too keen on buying an oversize sheet meant for marine uses. That would stand up to moisture without delaminating but $$$$$.

I am going to inquire at TAP plastics to see if they can suggest anything.

Update--I went to McMaster-Carr's site and looked at their plastics.
The only plastic or fiberglass material they offer wider than 48" is black ABS sheet and it is over $200 for a 54X96 sheet.

Out of my price range.

for better or worse, i think i'm gonna go with the baltic birch and some marine grade eurathane...a couple good wet coats of the stuff...didn't think of the interior glue issue...hopefully i can encase it well enough and keep everything somewhat dry...
