OK - what am I missing here: I bought a set of the front door hinge/sideview mirror mounts from the Thing Shop. I have both left and right stock Thing sideview mirrors. When I tried to screw the mirrors into their mounts, the threads just didn't take. Were different size threads produced? Anyone run into this problem, or have a solution?
Thanks!!!

I haven't seen this problem. I have used a bolt to chase the threads when really rusty. Can't remember the size of the bolt. Do you have a 73 or a 74?

It's a 73. Fortunately I don't have to deal with rust on this one, but I don't want to force them in place and risk stripping the lighter metal of the mirror thread.

did you buy the expensive mirrors or the cheapies? the cheap ones have poorly made diecast threads, that might be the problem.

Do you have a thread gauge or have you tried figuring out if they are matching/mismatching threads? Do any threads look burred? It doesn't take much. Have you talked to the Thing Shop? Sure you're turning the right way? It has to be an easy diagnosis. Good luck.

chinarider,

i mis-understood the question. it really points to the mirror mounts being the problem.
