I'm trying to install a new crank pulley on my new 1600DP longblock. It will not go all the way in (to where it's flush w/ the end of the crankshaft). I got it from MAMW, it's the slotted aluminum one.

Shouldn't it seat all the way in? I don't want to screw up this new engine I spent most of my life savings on!

no most of the aftermarket ones do not go flush. about 1/6 to 1/8 is what I have seen before... you can tell that the internal part of the pulley has bottomed out when your knocking it on with the hammer/block of wood ( if that is the method you are using, works for me anyway!) the sound that it makes...

Make sure that it is not burred up on the end of the crank or the crank key. Maybe measure the depth of the stock pulley if you have it laying around still againt the depth of the new one.
I have seen where they do not fit flush and it has never been a problem.
