Very Rare Jim Dandy luggage rack! how many out there?

That's awesome. Good find. Did the guy even know what he had or what it is worth? Welcome to the club. Wish it was that easy when I was looking for mine. Took me over a year.

the guy knew what it is. dont know if he knew whats it's worth tho. I guess he had it for so long that he just wanted to get rid of it when he was cleaning out his garage. I called him yesterday just to see if he had any sort of paperwork or instruction manual or even pictures of when he had it, but no luck. he told me he saw it in an ad on autoist mag ad and thats when he went out and bought it. he had it on his bug for about 10 years till he sold the car and kept the rack stored in his garage for over 40 yrs.

this is the only pic he has of his rack he gave me a photocopy as a bill of sale.

Repop. It is almost identical to the original. the turnbuckle is custom made. Cast aluminum swivel feet. The radius of the bend is correct. Aluminum inserts crimped inside for all of the middle tubes. Very few people would know that is is not original.

I was going to ask about the turnbuckles as they look brass to me and I've seen almost every jim dandy rack in person and never seen a brass turnbuckle. VERY NOICE bruthah Just don't re-pop the empi ones J/K

All hardware is 316 stainless including the turnbuckle. The empi tight lock will not be repoped by me.

From a Empi Titelock and Jim Dandy owner I can say that you won't find a better crafted piece of work than this. I helped assemble this one in the photo and it was nice to see and touch such craftsmanship. If anyone has been waiting then the time is now and you should step up. Heck I think I might want one.

Did the original Jim Dandy racks come with the flat corrugated aluminum or was that added by the buyer?

They came with the aluminum originally. I don't plan on selling them with aluminum. Shipping would be too expensive. I may offer wood slats as an option.

Looks great. You may want to add some rubber tubing over your racks feet to protect the gorgeous paint on that beautiful car. Excellent rack for a ragtop.

I put clear tube on the cast feet to protect the paint. Works great

does this mean my EMPI titelock will decrease in value? I should've sold it when i got the 3k offer. but i was told it was worth more. i guess i'll keep it for now...lol
