What is the correct color for repainting a 9 slat Bekowa roofrack? Silver? Should it be textured (ie., hammered?).

Mine is hammered silver------not the big hammered finish but the small hammered effect. Krylon has the smaller hammered look. Mine is the early 9 slat......I am not sure on what the 10 slat would be.

I have a low 9 slat that had original paint on and it was a light gray no metallic, a high 9 slat that was original paint in silver and a low 6 slat that was original grey. I have powder coated all 3 with a very fine size silver metallic color and it looks great.

I went out and looked at mine again. It too is OG with both tags and yet the grey is closer to silver and there is a slight hammer tone. Confused

My 9-slat BeKoWa is also a high version for sunroof models. It's still in original condition and it looks like a non-metallic Silver finish

Cool. That is the same one I have. Fits perfectly under my 3 fold. I sanded it back some (someone painted it white at one point), and it looks kinda silvery gray. I'll go with something like that - although powdercoating it may be a good idea too.

Thanks again.

yeah I am confused here...... Confused I have a 6 slat Bekowa that I acquired and have no idea of the specifics about it. The paint is almost a gold color ??? It looks like almost rust in the pic......but it's not rusty trust me, it's the COLOR of the paint. The paint looks worn and I was thinking it was OG. It does have the Bekowa tags, only two though, one in front and one on the passenger side.

Has anyone ever seen any this color? It does not appear to have been repainted.

I've never seen that color before. And two BeKoWa tags? My rack only has 1 tag on the front & center of the top tube. Of course BeKoWa is also engraved into both the securing clamps.

sorry I don't have better pics, I'll see if I can get some tommorrow.

btw, both clamps have Bekowa engraved in them, and the passenger side tag is black with silver lettering and is in the shape of an arrow. there is a word above the Bekowa name that says something like; "Farhfuchtung" or something like that (yeah, I know I screwed up the spelling).

last translation I got was it meant "direction of travel" and that the arrow should point towards the front of the car.

hope this helps. maybe I'll go home for lunch and get some better pics.

My two tags are almost sticker-like. BeKoWa is on the passenger's side and the other "sticker" appears to be a German distributor's tag and is located in front dead center on the top rail. The two clamps have the name BeKoWa inscribed into the metal.

sorry it took me so damn long and sorry for the poor quality of the pics..........damn my cheap digital camera Confused

As I said before you can see that the paint on my Bekowa rack looks like some type of gold/bronze color. If someone...........anyone can tell me if they have EVER heard of this color on a Bekowa rack before I would appreciate it.

At the welds, you can see a silver color kinda, but I'm not convinced that is the original color as much as the bronze/gold color is.

The reason is because those are the welds and you would expect them to be slightly different than the other areas anyways.........I do NOT see that color ANYWHERE else on the rack. There is some mild surface rust you can see and the bronze/gold paint and NOTHING ELSE between them.

so what's the deal here?

Also the tag reads, "Best Nr" and then "22H" in the silver area.

All I have is the auto focus thing on my cheapy camera and I can't figure out how to get a clearer picture. Never claimed to be a photographer.

There has got to be someone out there that can tell me more information on this rack. The vintage, where it was made, sold, COLOR, and even value.

btw, sorry it's NOT for sale Sad

thanks
