Either the pics are really bad, I stumped you guys, or your pissed because I kinda hijacked the thread..........sorry Embarassed Confused

The story on the rack;

I visited a guy in town for an unrelated part when I saw it sitting up in his rafters of his garage COVERED with dust. I immediately inquired about it. He said it was on his 67 bug when he wrecked it in the early 70's he removed the rack and stuck it up there in the rafters........where it has been ever since (undamaged). I asked where he got it from and was told from a lady that had it on her early 60's bug and she bought it with the bug brand new.

So I always kinda assumed it was from the early 60's. That is all I know. (I called him last nite) He swears he never painted it, and stated that it was in near excellent shape when he got it and was the same color..........he said, "kinda gold-ish".

Has anyone heard of this color of a Bekowa rack?
What does Best Nr. 22 H mean?

come on, there's gotta be someone that knows this Confused Smile

again thanks Confused

Ok, so after reading all of this I have two questions. What roof rack is correct for a split beetle era car? How can you tell the difference bewtten a ragtop version and the regular version? height?

I am looking for a very early ragtop roof rack? Tim

Yes, height. A ragtop 9-slat rack is 3/4-inch higher on the back tube than a non rag 9-slat.
I have heard what when it comes to Bekowa racks, the more slats, the earlier the rack. Wink

Hey Guys,

I just re-restored my 9-Slat Bekowa Roof Rack that I keep on my 1950 Standard Split.

I just used Rust-O-Leum spray aluminum. The side bolt and wing nuts on these early racks are made of Brass. I had sand blasted mine and what you see is just clean brass.

The side Bekowa decals I had previously bought from Gary at Brezel Werks. Re-doing my roof rack this time I tried to get in touch with Gary but he never got back to me so I had my own made. These are now for sale on the Samba. These are peel & stick and really nice. 2 for $15. contact me at [email protected]

The leather roof rack straps are from V dub Hub. (Perfect)

I'm sure some won't agree with my paint, or something I did. This is the way I did it, I like it. Case closed. Have a great day.

Here is my early BeKoWa sunroof wood slat roof rack hanging in my basement. Original paint, never restored. Sorry, I should have rotated the photo to vertical. You can barely see one of the original BeKoWa decals.
