Seems like someone once told me that 61 walk-thru seats were a one year only size - anyone know for sure?
Thanks |

I've got a 60 that I just bought seats for. I believe the seats from 57-62 are the same. I had a hell of a time finding some. They differ from the later ones in that they don't have any sliders and the bottoms are curved to fit the floor. I just went through all this myself recently so if you have any questions like brackets, mounting, etc, just ask. I'll try to answer what I know. |

I thought 58 through 61 were the same seat. |

FWIW, most of 62 for LHD has a one yearish only drivers seat. it slides, and the slider adjustment is on the right side of the seat in the aisleway. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Is the driver seat back supposed to be taller than the passenger? |

The taller backrest is 63-67. _________________ WANTED:

You have the wrong seat. But I bet it's more comfy! _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

It's comfortable.. I wonder how it's not the right one but fits on the track properly! |

Does your driver seat back have the hooks that connect to the w/t bulkhead? I've never seen an early w/t with a back tall like that. My guess is with Vince, I think it's incorrect but looks comfy! _________________ Phil 4:13 |

you have the wrong seat as well as the wrong slider rails on the seat pedestal...there should be none. _________________ drive your split. |

So it sounds like at some point in the life of your bus someone added a drivers seat and the correct lower track from a 1962 bus. An early 61 should not have this drivers seat. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

It's definitely the correct seat bottom for that track. I was told that it was a three month only. |

I am not disputing that it is not the correct seat bottom for the track. I think what we are saying is that it is not correct for your bus if your bus is an early 61. Someone added that track and seat from a 62 when they could not find the correct seat. It certainly works just fine and 99% of VW people would have no idea it is incorrect. Here is the correct drivers seat that should be in your bus.

Here is a copy of the progressive refinements VW book and page which shows exactly when this change occurred. It looks May 6, 1961 beginning with chassis number 770862. If you bus was built before that date and chassis number then it should have the fixed front drivers seat.

Notice the bottom right side. Small metal hole tab to secure the seat. Your bus is missing this |

I would imagine it is not exactly consistent with the 1962 model year...? |
you are correct. the '62 walkthrough started early in the '62 model year. I don't know exactly when, but it is certainly later than the chassis number that is given in progressive refinements detailing the change (yes, PR is not always correct). a friend of mine has a '62 walkthrough with the earlier seats. (august '61 production, later taillights and turn signals, etc.) |
