I'm a new owner of a '73. How can I tell if floor has already been POR 15ed? Previous owner chiseled out seat rails. Should I paint pan before or after rails reinstalled? Do I just clean real well and POR/paint? Where can I find some rails? In the trunk, can I just POR over factory paint after good cleaning? How do I clean the inside of gas tank that sat for a while? Sorry, lots of questions, but I'm mechanically challenged but determined. Thanks............Revis

Well POR 15 stands for Paint Over Rust. You should put seat rails on before you apply any type of coating. Phoenix Bug o Rama is next month, ask around the swap area if anyone has some old VWs that you could get seat rails cheap. Make sure the seat rails fit the type of seat you plan on putting in it.

With the tank you could check at a radiator shop about boiling it out.

Or put a handful of ¼" nuts in the tank with some laquer thinner, tape the holes shut and shake it all around.

What is, or how do you boil out a fuel tank. "Paint over Rust", Ok but in the paint forum I read about people PORing over everything. What's up with that? The seats I intend to use are stock Thing seats. Thanks for your help so far...........Revis

I personally don’t see anything wrong with posting POR 15 questions in the Thing forum. It still goes on a Thing right?

Anyway, did you see the POR15 Auto Fuel Tank Repair Kit? I have not personally used it but POR seems to have a great reputation. Maybe it would work for your needs. Once your get it cleaned up you can powder coat it too. Just my .02 cents
