I checked out Eberspächer's website, and to my surprise, there's an Eberspächer website! They actually still exist, and are still in the business of making auxiliary heaters! (sorry if this is already common knowledge, but it was a surprise to me). Apparently, they offer complete printouts of the BN4 manual, and then they suggest that if you have a BN4, you might want to replace it with one of their newer models. Anyone try this in a Thing? It might be a nice alternative for Thingers with a dead or missing BN4. Any opinions on this? Here's an excerpt from the site...
"You may be interested in replacing your heater with a modern, more efficient and technically advanced model. The heaters best suited to replace BN2 and BN4 heaters are the B1LC compact and B3LC compact, respectively. The B1LC compact is the gasoline version of the diesel D1LC compact (1) the top-selling auxiliary fuel-fired heater in the world. Similarly, the B3LC compact is the gasoline version of the D3LC compact. For pricing information, please see our dealer directory. Heater and dealer information, as well as installation manuals, are available on our web site. If you do not have access to the Internet, we will gladly send you color brochures and dealer information by mail. Please call 800 668 5676 from Canada or 800 387 4800 from the US." |

Damn, that is a nice setup. I wonder what they used to adapt the end of the heater to the existing dust work. (That plastic adaptor in the middle) I also wonder about the exhaust pip setup and what is that extra black box thing below the heater?
And to think of all that wasted time I spent rebuilding my BN4’s. I am putting that on my Christmas list this year. _________________ Order of the Voodoo Spoon |

$1600 for a new BN4. I checked it out a couple of years ago. That price made my 74' fresh air heater work much better _________________ NTHANG, LLC |

the duct to the right is both ends of the stock ductwork attached to each other. the black box looks like the stock heat shield. the new espar heaters are very similar to the older ones, more electronics to control them, but they are essentially the same. _________________ SL |

The sticker on the side of the heat shield threw me off. It looked like some kind of mechanical gizmo. Maybe I need a new monitor since its hard to make anything out in that photo.??.
What did they do to the fresh air intake that I thought was an adaptor? Just cut it off and seal it up with duct tape or something? Anyway it looks really nice.
I found out that those heaters run about $800 plus an instillation kit for $450. Kind of steep for me. Maybe I will wait until I burn out both my BN4’s before I make the swap.
Anyone know if they make a stainless steel exhaust pipe? Both of mine have rotted off and I need to find a replacement. I was thinking about making one if I can’t find a decent one cheap. _________________ Order of the Voodoo Spoon |
