What I know (could be right/wrong):
Plain panels in the front cab only unless the Kombi had the option for an interior in the rear (M502/503/504/505), then it would have had plain masonite panels in the rear as well.

M13 is supposed to be "Middle and rear seats plus panels in the cargo area" but I'm not conviced this really includes the panels. I think it is seats only.

After a certain year, all Buses have the holes there for the interior panels, they are just tiny holes because screws never got installed into them.

This is all correct for a barndoor then? I thought they didn't have any panels in the back full stop.

My Barndoor Kombi didn't have Panels and it had M13.

Does this answer your question?

I was pretty sure a bd kombi shouldn't have any panels in the back, so yes that does answer it thanks!

I'd trade it for a 2/3 caramel middle seat in similar condition.

this ties in with JMs earlier comments (p2):
can you get a factory barndoor 6 leg middle seat with no grab handles?
how are the grab handles attached to the seat frame? are they integral?

they slide into the tubing of the seat frame. they are held in place by a screw from the factory and 40 years of corrosion after the factory.

I'm going to say $700-$1200, depending on the condition, the seller and the venue. Full length middles seem a little more common than 2/3 length seats. I've seen two full length middle seats (early 60's style with metal tube grab handles) and minimal blown-out seat seams go for $700 on eBay recently. They were then later listed here for approx. $1200. They didn't stay unsold for very long.

It's certainly worth looking at OCTO, but the best deals are going to found elsewhere, outside the scope of knowledgeable buyers and sellers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The thing to do is to get yourself known locally as the "old bus person". Get out there and drive your bus to local shows, cruises, whatever. Maybe even hand out business cards to other car enthusiasts (not just VW) describing what you are looking for (old VW bus parts). If you are lucky, a lead on a middle seat or other parts will find it's way to you and the prices could be very reasonable. Believe me, it happens, but you've got to be in the right place at the right time and willing to follow up on any leads right away.

I spoke to the dudes from Wolfies at the Classic and they said their repro seats, and that is frame and springs, will sell for $300. Not too bad since most of the beater seats out there sell for more and have to be reupholstered and repadded and welded and ....
I asked if they will repro the handles for both the early and later style and the guys was a bit vague on that, said it wasn't planned but was possbile and likely at that.

So I know this seat was sold at OCTO and it wasn't anywhere near the new owners asking price here on thesamba....does this dude think all Carmel middle seats are worth $1,500? in good or bad shape or not?

I passed on purchasing the seat before it was even unloaded at OCTO...I'm looking for something alittle more cleaner.....Thank you anyway Dave.....just keep me in mind for a cleaner one eh?... Very Happy
